ZX12 clutch
OK, so I've been reading this column, and after my weekend, had to sign up. I raced bar bikes for a long time and got out of it 5 years ago. This year I decided to race again for pleasure, and set up an "03" 12. I thought I was doing the right thing by putting in a Muzzy Billet basket and cluth pack. The directions on the clutch pack said not to worry about the stack height, so I didn't. I ran the bike 2 weekends, a total of (8) 1/4 mile passes, and the clutch started dragging at the light. I pulled it, or tried to pull it should I say. Some of the steels were warped so bad that I had trouble getting them off the inner hub.
I need another clutch and after reading all the posts(NOX) I'm thinking stock is the best option. Can I keep the muzzy inner hub and just run the stock plate arrangement? Do I need to run a heavy set of springs, and if so what?
Here's my set-up:
Bike and rider 690 pounds
Motor: bone stock
Brock Street Meg exhaust
Usb PC3 with Hindle map
Muzzy air shifter
8" stretch
lowered with strut(what can I say, old school)
best 1/4 mile e.t. 9.18 @ 148
best 1/8 mile e.t. 5.89 @ 122
best 60' 1.47
Appreciate the advice!!

stack height should be your only concern if you want to have a clutch that lasts!
i have a Falicon Basket,, and i set it up (luckily) on the top end of the stack height tolerance,, all stock plates and 6 Brock Springs,, the clutch is AWESOME,, bike wants to stand with throttle going into second ANIMAL,, dont know why they would say not to worry about stack height,, they might as well said put however many plates in as you like! ??

I would put in a stock clutch pack, anti chatter rings included, exactly as the book sugests.....
If you do not want to put in a lock up, put three zx6 springs in(zx9 springs are the same as your stockers), or 3 brock springs, or 3 muzzy springs, (yes, I said Muzzy).
Get that damn strut off the bike asap, and if you want to get real consistent, get a lock up, and then pm me.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. I have a complete stock clutch pack on order. I'm already running 3 Muzzy springs with 3 stockers, so I guess I'll give that a try with a lock up being in the near future. The strut is coming off this weekend NOX, and the shock going back on. I keep hearing that the stocker won't work because it doesn't have enough rebound damping, is this true? Not to sound dumb, but I've never run a shock on a race bike. What is the theory other than weight transfer, because I hook up very well even with the strut and a 66" wheel base. It does occasionally perform a completely unexpected, and very quick, wheel stand. Does the shock absorb some of that energy that would other wise lift the front wheel?
Thanks Again!!

Anyone got a step ladder?
OK NOX, the shock is back on, man the ass end of this thing is high now!! I have a set of lowering links coming, but it doesn't seem like 3" lowering links are going to do the trick, especially considering I won't even get 3" because of the long wheelbase??

you will actually get a hell of a lot more than 3 inches because you are 8 over. it change the angle of the swingarm, it doeasnt move anything straight up and down as you may be thinking. once the swingarm starts pointing up, the added stretch will give you way more drop than it would if you were stock length.
only run a strut with a slick...

It will work....ok, not perfect.
BUT, it will be better than a strut......
They will lower it more than you think..........
My bike is so low, that the little peg on your kickstand is the bottom of my kickstand.......
