fan problem
Hi
I just done a quick wash to my zx12 and started the engine to get it dry before getting it in to the garage unfortunately the fan did not come on and the red FI light was on. it never happened before.
It is not the fan sensor as I tested it, fuse ok, fan ok as well. any ideas?
thanks
my bike

you need the service manual so you can see how the diagnostics work, how to read the code, and what to do with the code

Remove the rear seat and lift out the storage box. There will be a yellow wire with a female bullet connector (on the right side as you stand behind the bike). I have made up a wire with 2 male bullet connectors on either end, plug one end into the yellow wire, turn on the ignition and within 2 seconds ground the other end of the wire to the frame (non painted part) and hold it there. The FI light will then flash codes at you.
Two long flashes + three short flashes gives fault code 23.
Three long flashes + four short flashes gives fault code 34
etc etc.
Once it's given you all the fault codes it will recycle from the begining again.
To get to stored codes and not just present fault codes repeat the above but instead of grounding the wire once and holding, ground it 5 times quickly and then hold it. (unplugging the ECU (CDI) will erase any stored codes).
Below are the fault codes:

that was handy, thanks
results. after ground and hold i got FI red and no flashing codes, just once it flashed at constant speed but it wasn't any code type. after 5 quick and hold i got codes 21 and 23 where i dont see any problem with the engine. so i disconnected the ECU and the codes where gone so i than connected the fan switch wires again, FI than come red. and again 5 quick and code 21 is there but nothing on ground and hold.
so i think the error code 23 is when the engine goes hot and 21 when fan switch is on but what that have to do with fan, i'm not expert but is kinda strange.
