Brother down
So I get a call Saturday morn from my parents, after the normal how are you they decide to tell me why they called. My brother went down Fri morn. As of the phone call he was still in ICU with breathing assistance. I made it out there to see him, was good he would live, but horrible to see his condition. Right arm was ground from shoulder to wrist, the other I could not see, they decided that one should stay covered, I can only imagine what its like. The assisted breathing was due to 4 broken ribs, looks like the rear tire came down on him to break them. He said one leg was pretty well trashed, was covered so didnt see. He was heading out to the gym (a couple mile ride) wearing shorts and a tank top. He claims he came off a stop sign, got to about 45Mph and started into a tank slapper. Knowing him the way I do I feel it was up to 45Mph hit 2nd and bring up the front, land front then tank slapper. Be careful out there everyone. My brother spent Sunday having cake with his family for his sons birthday, don't want anyone else to go through the same, or even worse.

Well after 2 days in ICU and 5 days in Trauma Nursing he is headed home for at least 3 weeks of recovery, then maybe a light duty post for a few months (he is a Sheriff in CA). I will be heading out there this weekend to talk to him. Not like everyone wants to see but will be getting some digital pics of wounds, a subtle reminder of what could happen.

Sorry I missed this post before. I'm sorry to hear about your brother. I'm glad to hear that he is well on his way to recovery though.
Who is he a deputy for? I'm just curious, as I know a few cops who ride, although no one who's crashed recently except for Nano.
I actually wouldn't mind seeing the pics. Although they're sometimes tough to look at, they are often a good wake-up call when we're debating whether or not to gear up on those short jaunts.

brother down pics
So 9 days later I got some digital pics. This is the result of getting stupid while not wearing any gear. I have seen him do wheelies thousands of times, this one gave him a tank slapper on landing, shorts and T-shirts are not the most protective thing one could wear.

Nice hole in the knee....
I was out with Sassyvanilla,DirtyBill, Mrs. Dirty Bill, Photogirl, and Fish_Antlers, and we saw 3 Girls riding in Helmets, gloves, Platform Boots, tight pants, Mesh Tank tops and Bras.
Fish_Antlers tried to ask them about Road rash, but they didn't care.

Gawd.......Man, I bet he is in some serious pain....I Wish the best for a full recovery. Didn't they stitch him up??? He did not leave the hospital like that did he???
I am a true full "Gear" fan after my spill. The gear could not help my broken Femur bone but I only had one small rash on my elbow from the rubbing inside my jacket.... I crashed at 100-120mph. I actually see some guy's at the track with Jeans and tennis shoes on......Riding freaking Busa's and ZX12's!!! I wish the track did not allow that mess!

Here in Washington if your bike runs 125 or faster in the quarter they require leather pants and jacket. If it runs 124 no leather pants are required. I guess if you crash at speeds below 125 you don't need protection!! Ouch!

He did leave the hospital withe the holes, more like ice cream scooper wounds but anyway, he packs them with gauze and keeps them covered. I am sure the percaset is helping with the pain ;-). He is moving around as much as possible, not one to sit around and recover, would rather just keep going just go slower. He is off bikes forever though, his wife is selling hers too. I don't think the wreck bothered him too much, hes been there before, but having sons B-Day at hospital in ICU I think got to him. He knows he will never calm down and always ride aggresive so giving them up. He is a Sheriff on the SWAT team as well so it is a well known fact he is a adrenaline junky. I just hope the reality of the pics sinks into some people that may not wear gear. Most of us cant resist lifting the front tire or hitting a corner hard. When we are not geared up we don't think about it and still hit the throttle. Just dont want to see anyone else scraped like this or worse.
