Fuel Level Sensor follies
Riding today, had recently filled up the tank, maybe 50 km later take a peek at the fuel guage, reads one bar ! I'm the guy who has the aux. fuel cell installed and my first guess was that somehow the connection between the cell and the tank had come apart and all my gas had drained on the bike / road. I immediately had visions of my beloved 12 finishing like that poor Hurricane 600 in Nova Scotia...
Stop by the side of the road, no smell of gas (whew !), no obvious leaks. Take a look inside the tank and it's still pretty full.
Get home, start taking stuff apart, here's what I found,

The fuel level sensor had a missing connection. The soldering had held but the wire broke. I figured it was because it was coiled around too tight and exerting too much of a pull on the connection.
Here's my fix

I simply uncoiled things a bit and put a tie-wrap to prevent things from moving and tugging too much on my new soldering job.
Anyone else have this problem ? I've been following this forum for a long time and never heard of this one before.

Have not heard of this before. I had to transfer the sensor, pump etc.when I changed to the carbon tank. I am amazed that the pump and sensor survives in the enviornment it all is exposed to!!!

Wow, nice simple fix!
I also like that aux. tank setup Bob. Where did you pipe it into the stock tank? Discription? Pictures? Wondering if thats a kit you buy or one you made up....?

Bob - Real nice fuel cell setup.
As far as the GPS-V, I have mine mounted on the top triple (Just left of the key switch) with the mounting bracket that came with the unit. I've never lost the satellite signal. I also hard wired it to the auxiliary circuit, which automatically shuts the unit off 30 seconds after the ignition is turned off. At night I can leave the light on all the time with it being hard wired. You know the light eats batteries. GPS is great!

GPS wiring
I decided to go the other way, I found a place in the fusebox that has power all the time, regardless of if the ignition is on or off. The reason why I chose that route is that I want the GPS to remain on when I'm stopped for gas or other stuff while on a 'timed' long distance run, so that data continues to be saved.
You're right that it's great to have the light on all the time at night and not have to replace batteries all the time.
One trick I've learned is that it's better to not have any batteries at all in it when it's hardwired because the vibration from the bike will make some kind of carbon deposit form on the terminals of the batteries (at least it did with my NiMH rechargeables). Also as it's sitting atop my windscreen I want it to be as light as it can be.
I love the GPS V. After 10 000 km this summer, I'm still fiddling with it to find the most useful features. I'm now mainly using the Go To feature for the auto-routing instead of using the real route feature. Seems to work better for me.

Yes Bob I just had the same problem with the guage showing just one bar when full. I had a spare sensor at home from a wreck so I just swapped it over and back to normal... I will test the original sensor with a meter to see if I can fix it like you did. I do not run an extra fuel load container. Thanks for the heads up.....
