Power Commander and DJ 250
I have a 2000 12 with Power Commander (PC-III) that has a serial port. I can use a serial to USB adaptor to load a map, but a Dyno operator told me it would not work with a DJ 250. He actually said they (DynoJet) teach that in the dyno course.
He has the electric brake and the tuning link software. Has anyone dyno tuned a bike with the serial port type Power Commander? Any computer made in the last 5 years does not have a serial port.
I am wondering if I may be able to help this guy out with computer smarts so he doesn't have to turn away business.
Thanks,
Steve

I call BS! The dyno operater does not have any experiance (what I call an educated dummy). I would not let him touch my bike.I had mine dyno'd on a DJ250i with tuning link at Performance Phycle in Knoxville. It worked fine. The only thing Chris was worried about when I got there was finding his adapter. It was nothing special just a stanard adapter. By the way he tuned it to 183.3 stock motor. I would say do some shopping around. I live in Nashville and drove to Knoxville to have mine done.

Crash, was there anything different about the adaptor? Or just plain simple $10 serial to USB adaptor?
That's what it seems it should be to me.

You dont need any adaptor at all. He can tap right into the serial port.
Mine is an early pcIII that even says pcII on it and the tuning link software has no trouble with it.

Y2K - the problem is they don't put serial ports on any new (within 4-5 years) computers. My PC-III has a serial port and they sell these USB to Serial adaptors for about $10.
I was just told the adaptor would not work with the tuning link software and that DynoJet was teaching this in the dyno class. I'm thinking they just want to sell more PC-III USB's!
All about the money!
