Kawasaki Salesman shot dead in senseless killing

It was apparently business as usual at Kawasaki of Memphis until a little after 2 p.m. Tuesday. It was then, authorities say, that 17-year-old Dexter Brown, in the store to pick up a brand new motorcycle, did the unthinkable.
"(He) had been in the store pretty much all day," said Lt. Rory Mack of the Bartlett Police Department, "and for some unknown reason pulled out a weapon and opened fire on the employees."
Glen Page Jr., a 32-year-old salesman known to his friends as "Buddy," was shot three times. Police said he died on the showroom floor. Page's coworker, Cynthia Lester, was shot in the arm, and remains in critical condition.
Page's uncle, Joey Hadley, couldn't imagine how it could have happened. "He was selling motorcycles, and had been over here for awhile," Hadley said. "It's just a real shock."
A steady stream of family members, friends, and loyal customers showed up at the dealership after the shootings. Most of them had tears in their eyes as they tried to comfort each other and make sense of what happened. Some said they could have easily been there when the shots rang out.
"Me and my fiance come in here and talk to them every day," said Ronald Braham, a customer of the store. "Today we didn't come, and I was actually thinking about coming by."
Braham never imagined his latest visit to place normally reserved for fun would be under such sad circumstances.
Suspect wanted for deadly shooting dies in fatal crash
A suspect wanted for a deadly shooting at a Mid-South business died after fleeing from authorities and crashing his car Tuesday afternoon.
According to authorities, Bartlett Police responded to a shooting Tuesday afternoon at the Kawasaki dealership at Elmore and Summer in Bartlett.
The suspect, 17-year old Dexter Brown, was a customer who was apparently waiting to pick up a motorcycle from the dealership. Brown shot two employees, killing one. A male victim was shot and killed. The other victim, a female, had non-critical injuries.
Lt. Rory Mack of the Bartlett Police Department said the motive for the shooting was unknown. "(He) had been in the store pretty much all day," Mack said, "and for some unknown reason, pulled out a weapon and opened fire on the employees."
After the shooting, Brown fled from Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies, driving his car up Highway 70, eventually crashing near Highway 385 in Arlington.
"He went off the roadway, traveled down a field several hundred yards, and all was well until he got into an embankment," said Shelby County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Steve Shular. "His vehicle hit an embankment, which caused his vehicle to go airborne and flip upside down."
According to Shular, there was no chase, rather, Brown panicked when he saw deputies and flipped the car on his own.
Brown's family had no comment Tuesday night.

very sad, this is crazy world with bunch of sick and crazy people live in it. that is why you never know when will be your last day. my heart goes to families of victims.
does anyone knows what the motive was/?did he use to work there or did he have confrontation with one the employees?

Cynthia was the one that sold me my 14 and i was in there last friday looking at some small atv's...... she told me that i may as well by the kymco because thats who makes small atv's for khi...... nice lady. Don't know the guys by name but i know the faces....17yr olds with guns..... go figure.

The dead kid that murdered the victim however, may he rot in hell.

i wonder if the motive was because he was 17 years old and not legal age to buy and pissed him off after they told him. unfortunately these days people shoot people for any reason.

the only bright spot to all of this, if you can even say there would be one... is the shooter killed himself, and saved everyone involved years of appeals and tax $$'s down the drain!!
my thoughts and prayers to the victim and family...

strange thing is that he was pre- approved and supposedly just waiting for them to prep the bike.... i'll try to keep you guys posted as to any new info that is made available....

Being raised in the Memphis area, I feel there was more to this then meets the eye.
why/how can a 17 year purchase a new motorcycle without an adult?
why was this salesmen doing business with a minor?
word on the street is the buyer was paying for this bike under the table due to the amount of cash involved. he was returned to actually pick up the bike, when the deal went sour and seller refused to refund his money.
word on the street also mentioned that the seller pulled a weapon first.
both men a dead, so no need of worring about the situation.

How nice! The Police did not chase him and he killed himself on his own. ANd for no reason he killed the salesman! I agree Justoyz, more to it than this!

I can't imagine having a bike when I was 17. I was 31 and got quotes of over $2000 for insurance for the 14. He might have got mad after calling the insurance man.
I don't know.
Just crazy!

Better Idea than most! I owned my first car when I was 12 and 1st Motorcycle when I was 14! What insurance back in the 1950's

having had dirt bikes from 8yo on, riding on the street was a given with only 2 cops in north arlington at that time (Officer Robinson and Officer Davis) I was on a first name basis with both. Bought first car ('67 VW type IV) at 15 to drive to HS with, and first street bike (Kawi S3 or KH400) at 16yo. No license till 18, no insurance till 30yo.
on topic, never wanted to off a bike salesman, plenty of car salesmen though

You are starting to Scare ME!! My first insurance was in 1983 when I was 40 and buying my first house and realized they could sue me in a accident and take the house or someone falls on the sidewalk then sue me. What year were you 30?
I did have a salesman I wanted to hurt! Terry Frue at Mar-Sids on 9th Street when they tried to tell me that the "Center Cylinder on an H-1 was not covered for Siezure" and they charged people for warranty work then collected from Kawasaki!

1990. It's simple Vince, when you successfully ride a street bike for years without getting killed you've developed keen awareness skills that will most likely keep you from having auto accidents (if you stay off the cell phone), so insurance is a waste of money till you you've got too much to lose. btw that old friend of yours with the ducatis and MV looks familiar is he from northern va.?

Mike lives in Bethesda. It is very hard for a Bike rider to have a car accident! . Note it was when I bought my house I got "Insurance" Like you said too much to lose! Do you remember Mar Sids that bunch of Rip off Bike salesman? (or is that before your time?)

what bike shop? my earliest experiences with bike shops was Cycles inc. wilson blvd, Crossroads Kaw, Anandale Suzuki, Capitol ? circa late 60's

Bill Bloom who got me started Road Racing is "STILL" Racing I saw him at Summit point with a GPZ 550 and his KZ1000 we enduranced Raced at Bridgehamnpton. I remember Annandale behing the Boat dealer and Capitol rip off! and Sysles Inc the larges still!
Mar-Sids was in the late 60 and early 70's on 9th Street between M & N street I think

Bill Bloom (owner of X-roads kaw ?) that guy never smiled. I figured his wife left him or died and he had a permanent case of the ass. but thinking back, many roadracers I met acted like that. Good guy though always treated me fairly
