Almost done with zx-12 with zx-10 suspension

I'm almost done. The body is just pinned in place to check clearance. Don't mind my messy basement I got a little carried away making room for my bike. I did a crappy paint job but the guy at Latin Customs who did the airbrush did a good job.

Did you stick with the ZX10 brakes or are you gonna try for ZX14 brakes?

What did you have to do to make the 10 swinger fit the 12?

Looks great, it should make a sweet trackday bike.

I ground down a nut to fit between the pivot bolt and clutch side frame hole and used a zx6 pivot bolt and associated parts. It was done by a member ncognegro on the zx12.org but hes hard to get a hold of I'll warn you ahead of time. I had to come up with some things on my own. When I finally get her tuned and it runs good as it should from what I've been told I'm gonig to break every thing into detail for the next guy. I used the stock zx10r radial brakes, is there a benefit to the 14 brakes? I might check into it.

Great news, it worked! I just took it out for the initial voyage and it handled great right out of the box with no adjustments. I did about 160 with no issues. I did a bunch of 30 to 40 mph imaginary cone weaves and it felt smooth and easy to turn and change direction. I still have a list of things to do though.
1.I need to get bump stops  Never really was an issue but the problem was there.
2.Need to hook up my rear brake when the line comes in and bleed the front again it felt a little spongy.
3.Cut a small section of the lip on my upper cowl to allow steering travel. I messed up and got to much rake on the vortex handlebars might not have been an issue with stock.
4.Wet sand the paint for runs and orange peel. :x
5.Scrounge some mounts for my ohlins stabilizer.
6.Set ride hight and rebound/compression.
I am happy now

Axle to Axle is 59.75in. and pivot bolt to rear axle is 22in. Yes, the wheels are from the 2004-2005 year ZX-10r.

That is some serious work! The #1 thing I like is the stiction resistnat coating on the fork tubes. Did the fork tubes fit the ZX12 Tripple clamps? You can see where my mind is! Keeping everything 12 but changing the fork tubes!

I had to use the 10's triples with the 10's forks. The 12's triples were to big for the 10's tubes and to wide for the 10's rim. God, that would have been sweet if it had though. Then there was the pressing in and out and switching the 10 for the 12 stem, I let the machine shop press it since I didn't have one. The new headache is how to adapt a Ohlins stock zx10 damper to the 12's frame and 10's fork. I have a mount for the 2006 upper triple but I have a 2004-5 triple ???. They make fork clamps and different frame mounts but trial and error is not an option. The fork tube size is known but so many variables. I wish I new where I could eye every thing for clearance. I guess I'll have to break out the square and rule lol. I also have the damper to frame mount but I would have to cut the gas tank cover to get it to fit. I got the $500 and some Ohlins for $170 and would like to get it to work.

Stock weight 551 wet and 519 dry. Half tank of gas and it weighed 500 even at the salvage yard. I have full muzzy stainless which I think saved 7 lbs so I'm guessing 28 lbs lost.

Alright, I did my home work. Curb weight which includes all liquids including gas is 542lbs. Gas is 6 lbs per gallon so 2.5 gallons in half tank=15lbs. 542-15= 527-7lbs for exhaust=520. So in conclusion the swap netted between 18 and 20lbs if you include the clean air which I removed and it turns leans and switches direction very easy now.

One more thing, I had to get the steering stem nut from the 12 turned down and shortened to fit the upper triple of the 10. Lowering is going to be fun also because the fork tubes narrow just below the bottom triple clamp. I guess it will have to be internal or strapped. It really does not need it accept for looks. It rides great and very stable. I don't know why the guy who did the original mod said it was not stable at high speed.I found a place to do the bump stop, I hope he does not try to rape me. Wait a minute it might be a she
