no headlights b1 model
I sparked the amplifier on my motorcycle and something popped. Since then I have had no head lights. I looked at the main headlight fuse (30 amp) next to the battery nothing. The fuse is in good condition. I swapped the relays behind the head lights nothing.. Used a volt meter there is not power getting to the headlights. Bike runs fine, I'm trying not to pay the shop 2 hours labor to fix it..
anybody have any ideas?

The ZX-12 headlight circuit is a not very straight forward. The link has a simplified schematic.
The bulbs get power direct from the battery via a 20 amp fuse, F1. However that voltage is switched by two headlight relays, one for high beams and one for low beams. RL2, RL3.
The headlight relays are energized via the HI/LO beam switch.
The HI/LO beam switch gets power from a 10 amp fuse, F2, inside the junction box via the 'Headlight' relay RL4, also inside the junction box. Once the RL4 is energized it powers itself via diode D216 until the key is turned off.
For RL4 to first energize two things must happen:
1) The alternator needs to be spinning fast enough to generate 12V of power which via diode D217 powers one side of the coil.
2) The starter relay, RL5 must be off which grounds the other side of the coil
The purpose of all this is to not turn on the headlights until the engine has started spinning (alternator making power) and the starter button has been released.
Have you checked the 10 amp headlight fuse in the junction box?

BTW when you say you shorted your amplifier are you talking about the regulator/rectifier or do you put a car stereo on your bike?? :P

10 amp fuse in the junction box is also fine.. hooked up amplifier 2 3.5 inch speakers, 2 1 inch tweeters, ran by an mp3 player on the triple clamp.. Harley guys like it..
maybe the headlight relay next to the battery is bad..man this has me scratching my head..

The relay board (where the fuses are) might be the culprit. Check the "no-headlights fix" thread over on zx-12r.org.

where was your amp connected to power on the bike? That might help in tracking it down

Here is what I would do before I went to the trouble of replacing the relay in the J box...
You need to trace the wires from the left handlebar switch cluster back to the connector and unplug the connector. Take your volt meter, ground the negative lead somewhere, and attach the positive probe to the wire harness side (not the handlebar side) of that connector at the pin with the BLUE/YELLOW wire. This lead powers the hi/lo dimmer switch which powers the headlight relays.
This line will read 0V until you turn on the key and hit the starter button then it should have +12V on it.

BTW I reread your first post and you said you checked the 30 amp fuse.
There are two fuses right off the battery. A 30 amp main fuse and a 20 amp headlight fuse.
Are you sure you checked the right one?
The 20 amp fuse holder has a white wire and a white / black wire going to it.
