Horsepower Mike Chestnut Update, Please read
Hello All. Roger here. Guess it's time I post here. An update on Mike is in order. He went into surgery on his left elbow on 5-22. From what I hear, all went well and a full recovery with a lot of therapy, should get him back to normal there, and on all the other injuries. Time will tell.
The left leg will hopefully be closed up after this weekend
The leg was amputated approximately 6 to 8 inches below the left knee.
Mike is very upbeat and sounded the best yet when I talked to him today. It was great to hear him this way. Nothing can describe the thoughts going through my mind when turning that next corner and not seeing him in my rear view mirrors. Mike and I have many hours and miles together riding, and we know each other's skill level, who leads is not an issue because it doesn't matter, we know what each other can do so we depend on each other in a group, or just
by ourselves. Finding him that way along the roadside was
very tough to see. not much can describe it. Thanks so much
Otis for coming along with us on that ride. I had no cell
service there, and you saved the day by going back down to
the lake with your phone. Thanks so much to anyone and everyone that helped that day. It seemed like hours before any help arrived, after I had tended to his injuries. A
"Quick" ride was in order after the police and the Park officer would not give me a ride to the hospital after the
ambulance left. I arrived at the hospital 15 minutes after
the helicopter brought Mike to UT in Knoxville.
Thanks to "Old Kawboy" Dan and his wife for being there
and for any information you gave was much appreciated.
And also to John EY for being there. The hardest part after the accident was calling Mike's family to tell them the bad news. Not the phone call anyone wants to make anytime.
A Quick ride for them from Nashville to Knoxville while I tried to keep them informed as they drove of Mike's condition.
It is amazing all the support from everyone on all the
the motorcycle boards, Bikeland, 750 Turbo.com, TMIOA,
etc. The support and kind words are great to hear. Mark
and Melissa Day are some of the best friends anyone could have. Their support has been amazing. Thanks also go to Steve and Cindy Smith for the fundraiser and all their help.
We'll still keep Mike's business going as best as we can,
and after he arrives back home. Many roads to cross in the
future, but soon we'll both be riding on these roads either on the ZX12's or the 750 Turbo's. Whatever it takes to get him back riding. The second toughest part was riding back home without him there. Just not the same. Nothing like a few 2nd to 3rd gear wheelies though on the 12r to help cheer you up. I hope this will be posted on the other boards also, so everyone can see it. Hope to see some of you at the upcoming Turbo rally, and also the future ZX12
rallies.

I've met several great people on these boards...one of them is Mike...
Best wishes for a speedy recovery...
I'm working on TurboBlew's 750-turbo and will probably call the shop for some info 
Looking forward to talking to MIKE "at the shop"...SOON!?!?!?

I'm so glad to hear that Mike is in good spirits. Please let him know that he is in all of our thoughts and prayers EACH AND EVERY DAY!

Thanks for the update Roger and THANKS for being there when Mike needed you the most. You're the man.
If there is ANYTHING you need there's a bunch of people here more than willing to help out in any way.

Tell Mike that Timmy said hi and best wishes. Ive never met you, but I know Mike from when he and I lived in Cali.
Thanks a lot for the update. Hopefully next year I will be back in the states to make it to some of these rallys (ZX12R and Turbo). One of the problems with military life is you don't get much choice on where you live. I am glad I got stationed in Germany... but hearing about the rallies/rides in the states is killing me. I guess when I get back to the states I'll be bitchin about the friggin speed limits. LOL

Just got back from vacation, I can't believe this! Mike, I'm so sorry to hear of your accident. My wife (Emily) and I said a prayer for your speedy recovery.

I talked with Mike last night, his attitude and courage is something I could only hope for.
They are planning to close his leg up today, He is through with the whirlpools and GLAD of it.
He hopes to be going home...not to a Nashville hospital, but home by Friday, man that would be great since "cabin fever" is wearing him down. He is looking forward to riding and breaking 200 at Maxton......way to cool!
Several friends and Roger was in over the week-end and that helped alot. The doctors expect a slow but full recovery of his arm which is an answered prayer. Let's all remember him, he still has a tough road ahead but I have no doubt in his abilities.

update
The surgeon decided his leg wasn't ready to close up yet on Wednesday and said they wanted to reschedule the closing for Monday. So it looks like Wednesday at the best before he can go home. He and his parents are doing well but are have encountered many frustrations with schedule changes and lack of communication. If you get an opportunity to give him a call over the next few days please do, the waiting can be unbearable. His direct # is 865-544-8011.
