starter and seat problem
Hey guys need some advice. When I try to start my 01 12 the starter turns very slowly like the battery is almost dead. It does this more when the bike is hot or I'm giving it some throttle while trying to start it. I have heard there is a relay problem. What do you think?
Also,
My front seat has a a place just infront of my crouch right behind my tank cover where it has collapsed anyone else had this problem. I'm thinking it should be under warranty.

My 1270 12 also does the starter thing once in awhile. It does seem to happen when the bikes fully warmed up and then shut down for a little while. It could very likely be the relay getting hot. I had an old Trans Am with a built big block that always did this when starting hot, and it was the relay soaking heat from the close header pipe.

Are these problems also with the 2002 models of the 12, or has Kawasaki addressed them already?
To answer your question though, your warranty will cover that. My dealership is awesome when it comes to warranty work.

The reason I ask the PC111R question is I have experienced the same problem with my 12. In fact it was so bad I just knew my battery was bad and I decided to take it in for warranty replacement... Well, when I got to the dealer the battery checked out fine but the mechanic said it acted like the timing was extremely advanced. My response was I had a PC111R but had not entered any timing changes and it should be stock. So just on a hunch we disconnected the PC111R and the puppy fired up with no hesitation at all.
I ended up talking at length with the folks at DJ, but their response was this was the first time they had seen this type of problem. But I wonder if this is just the politically correct response when working for them.
The bottom line is that I would bet there is a direct link between the PC111R and the starting problems.
I still have this issue when starting the bike especially when it is fully warmed up.
So, just to make you feel better you are not alone with this problem.. I recently discussed this with my local DJ Tuning Center and they made the statement they have seen 4 or 5 12's with this same type of issue, and they all had PC111R's..
Take your PC111R off and see if the problem goes away..Then post what you find..

We've never experienced it, this is the first I've heard of it. I suppose it is certainly possible that the PC could play a role, but I'd have to have one of the computer geeks explain that to me.
