Stator Re-Winding

The stator on my 01 12R I bought wrecked is damaged. It has a few winding on 4 different coils that are ground on. In a couple places the wires are shorted to each other and almost ground halfway through. Anyone know of a good reputable stator repair shop? I haven't had much luck here locally. I did find one or two places on the internet that can do it. One looks like it be around 165 dollars or so for the 18 coil Kawasaki stator. That sounds like a damn good price to me considering a new stator is more than twice that.

find out what size (guage) wire it is and rewind it yourself.

determine the winding pattern, look closely at how it was done. unwind the old, count turns, and note where the crossovers are. also note which spot on core it comes to.

and if worse comes to worse, if you still can't get it to work, then you aren't in any worse condition than when you started.

165 dollars for maybe 20 dollars of wire (at radio shack retail price) and a bit of time.

the key though is when you unwind it to take GOOD notes.

make a form the same size as the coil you need, and wind around that.

;P
