light weight battery?

Hi in looking to cut some fat out of our beloved zx12. I'm in search of a lighter weight battery and light weight gas tank. Any help would be appreciated!

You might look at the Yuasa YTZ7-S.

I was told it is commonly used on race bikes and should be a couple of pounds lighter than the stocker.

Cool the search for weight reductions continues. The yausa battery has a claimed weight of 5lb's how much does a stock battery weigh? What battery are you using MadMike?

someone on this forum used a few NiMH cells to start their stroker 12. can't remember who tho, and not sure if it was just supplemental or replacement.

sorry... lets see... the stock battery is the

YTX14-BS (6L x 3.4375W x 5.75H) weight 8.1lbs w/o acid. so approx 1lb of acid...
YTX12-BS (6 x 3.4375 x 5.125) 7.5lb
YTX9-BS (6 x 3.437 x 4.1875) 5.4lb
those are the maintenance free options...
do you want any standard battery options?
these should work ok with a stock motor... but I would not use a smaller one on a built motor.
and the PC545 or infamous Fast by Gast battery weighs in at 11lbs....
I hope that helps...

On the Ni-MH I doubt they would use one of those for a standard battery... if so it would have to be some High AH battery like a Ni-MH D or F cell pack... I have seen them used for an extra battery for a 24V system...
just let me know if you have any more questions...

Oh on the YTZ7-S
(4.4375L x 2.75W x 4.125H) 4.6lb with acid, so it will save you about 2lbs in weight. but
the battery is reverse polarity of our battery so it might be a pain to get in there. it is a Factory Activated, Maintenance free, and all that means is it is Expensive... my R1 has one of those styles... double $$

anyway there ya go...

On the Gas tank there is a couple of CF tanks out there. but they are very big bucks... check with Swft, and the Jackshow from Hawaii has a cut down version...

Thanks MadMike! I'm a little confused as which one to get. I like the lightest battery of course except for the reverse polarity.(I can see that being a major pita) My bike has a 1290 in it with about 14.1 compression now. If i read your post correctly it looks like our 12's came with one of three batteries so i'll check and see which one i have. I prefer the gel battery of course.

Once a very long time ago i saw a plastic tank and carbon fiber one as well. But.............. I can't seem to find any. Hmmmmmmm
