Modified Reed Covers

To Y2K:

Could you elaborate a little more on your modified reed cover intakes?

sure. Its a flat aluminum plate that replaces the cast covers, with fiberglass intake reeds from a 2 stroke mercury black max V6 outboard engine. 3 sets on each plate. they open with the slightest vacuume signal but close with ram air pressure. You will need to buy a K&N to sacrafice and cut up to use for a filter.
I had the plates made and was working on a filter setup but never went any furthur. I wasnt convinced it would make the bike any better down low and it was never a high priority so I never worked on it again. That was 5 years ago.

My digital camera is broken. But I might be able to find some old pics of it on a cd or somthing. They replace the two stock access covers. The reeds are available from Boysen and they are 5 pedal inline. A pair on a plate not three. You just need the steel reed stops from mercury. Stay with boyson fiberglass reeds. I had them facing apart. This puts them just above each throttle body. I'll see if i still have the autoCad file of them. That was a few disk drives ago.
Let me see what I can dig up...

Hears a picture of a plain plate. The basis of the reed plate. I made several if you would like a set to play with.

Id like a pair to play with or the dimensions to make a set. Does it use the same mounting holes, this would be cool if you could actually see them opening and closing. Whats the thickness of those plates.

Yea they use the stock bolt locations. They are made from 1/8" aluminum plate.
You wouldnt see them under the fuel tank.

The reeds are mounted with the reed stops on the inside and open inwards.
The outside would only need some flat air filter foam or a thin pleated section of K&N filter material and be siliconed in place.

One thing thou, you might get alot more intake induction noise from the bike when wot at low rpms.
