Head Work - Little Welding

Just curious if anyone knows of someone that does a little welding on heads?

I was looking to get my old 12 head fixed up. One Exhaust valve let go at the stem. It only tagged the head a couple of times and then got stuck back up in the seat. Just need a few little slices/nicks welded and smoothed up a touch, plus new seat, possibly valve guide (even though it looks good I would have it checked and/or replaced), and probably shave the head a touch after the welding action.

Any recommendations or comments would be appreciated.

Thank you all much,

Gary

There is a Place in Maryland "Ladds Porting Service" that welded up a Head, Replaced some Seats and Guides to save a Very expensive head when I was Still Road Racing in the 80's They are Still there and soing the same work! I know it cost about $400 per hole!

Gary, If you were in Texas I could do the Tig weld repair , but thats about my limit. I would use4043 filler because it has silica to make it wet out with the cast. Some guys use 5356 but it always shows a difinative line I think it is because of the magnesium content of that filler

Gary is in Austin, but he needs seats, guides, shave, and a lil welding.

My vote is to call SK or Ward or Carpenter or Schnitz, etc, etc have em dissasemble, assess needs and fix er up. yep.

Thank you all much! Yep, Austin, TX. We have a couple hills out here to roll around on. I shot a couple e-mails out to the people you all recomended so I'll sit back and see what all they have to say. It would be nice to stay under $400 and keep it as a spare. If anyone else has suggestions please chime in.
