Tweaking the Stocker...

Heres a pic of my latest attempt to produce more power with the stock engine in the zx12r.
I've only ridden it once in the rain for a while. It has claped out 207's on it so I didnt beat it hard. They couldnt warm up with air temps in the low 40's wet and raining.
Its hard to believe it was 92 here a few weeks ago.

In the above picture, the intake valve reliefs are cut .015" and the intake cam is at 103 the exhaust cam is at 101 and the block shim is gone bringing static compression from 12.2 to 1 to 12.8 to one. The squish areas are .028"

Notice the burn pattern with the washed out areas from last years chamber rework. I lost the burn pattern pics before the chamber rework.

This is the stock chamber in the below picture.

This is the slightly reworked chamber below.

And another

The pipe.

Below are exhaust spigots for a Yosh race pipe.

What's up with the airbox cover? You got something hanging off of it taking up space in there? I unshrouded around my exhaust valves also hopefully making it easier for the gases to find their way out.

These plates are just flat, they dont have the reeds and filters in them.

Yea it still will burn pump gas. The dynamic cranking compression is up 18 psi over last year and 7 psi over the year before with the factory cam timing.

I'll post more info as I dial it in. It'll be on the dyno in the next few weeks.

Doug, .028" is close I'll agree. But I ran it all of last season without the block shim and it showed no signs of contact. I havent changed the deck height sence last year so it should be ok.
This year the only real change was advancing the intake cam and cutting the pistons for more piston to valve clearance.
Thats what I'm more nervous about. Right now the piston to intake valve clearance is .029"

I think it should be ok, I've run .035" on 500+ CI chevys with alot more piston "rock" than these tight little pistons.

Do you guys offer valve springs?

.028?

I hope you don't build up one single solitary piece of carbon in that thing.

Well, I just got back from a good ride with the new combo.
The first real ride with this combo and my initial impresion is good.
This is more like the results I was expecting last year with the porting and shim removed.
The power at 8000 is the best its ever been.

I think 185 hp is a possability. We'll see.

Maybe I'll get some time to play on the dyno this weekend.

I've got different springs on my intake side. Got them from Lee's performance. Think they may be APE's but not sure. I've got the other half of the set on the bench. I've got access to a tension checker. Give me some heigths if your're interested.
