Just pull straight up. If you have trouble you can pry on them a little with a screwdriver.
and yes the will come out without dropping the engine.

Yes, they do just pull straight out, and can be taken out with the engine in place. Have to bend them a little, but no big deal. There's a looong rubber end on them.If they're really tight, you'll have to twist them back-and-forth a bit to pull em out. A small shot of WD40 won't hurt either. I smeared a bit of synthetic grease on them on re-install.

When putting them back in make sure you put a pry bar against the frame and on top of the coil to make it snap back in, it's important to make them snap in!!!

frEEk...............I twist mine around 4 or 5 complete revolutions ( usually counterclockwise cause I am silly........) then pull up on em. It helps break em loose since most have been on there a while. When I install them.........I turn them clockwise 4 or 5 times ( cause I am silly...... ) while pushing down to ensure they are seated.........
This is the procedure that Yamaha recommends in there service manuals.........

Make sure they snap twice when pushing them back in.
+1 on having to bend some of them once it reaches the rubber part.
