Asheville to COT is about 2 hours. I've ridden it both ways mre than once. As for route..I don't have a map with the numbers on it, but we always left COT on 28 going to Cherokee. Picked up the end of the BRP there and it's 85 miles to ASheville. Yes it is patrolled, but we ususally average 1 hour from there to Asheville :-). If anyone has a radar detector, we can put them up front. The good news is that in 1994 or 95 (not sure which), I got stopped by a federal cop. He didn't know how fast I was going, only that it took him 5 miles, rinning at 95 mph to "catch" me. I saw him more than a quarter mile behind me in my morror and pulled over to wait for him. I had my helmet and gloves off before he pulled in....anyway. her wrote me up for 70 in a 55. It cost me $85, but since it is on federal land, they don't report it to the states....SO no points. I had ridden 250 miles of the BRP at speeds in excess of 85-90 mph for a "fee" of $85. I don't know about you guys, but I considerd that a pretty good deal. I'd buy admission for that price. :-)
Anyway...I would probably avoid Cherokee on a weekend, so Red'd suggestion of picking up the BRP just north of there sounds good. There is a gas station and mini mart up on the BRP just over halfway between Cherokee and Asheville, or at least there was last year. Still, it would probably be a good idea to gas up just befroe getting on BRP just in case.
Is anyone intersted in taking the road througt the canyon down to Margaritaville at Lake Lure after dinner? I can call my friend and have him meet us at the resteraunt to guide us if so. It wouldn't be a fast ride I don't think, but is sure is beautiful and 20 or so ZX-12r's pulling into the biker bar would sure get some attention. :-)
Well..let me know.
Looking forward to the trip for sure.
Steve
Oh and PS...to whomever was asking about riding your ZRX.....Some here remember that me and my 12 had a head on meeting with a car last summer. In the interest of preserving my life and my marriage, I now ride a Valkyrie. Tho I'm still a sportbike hooligan at heart. So your ZXR will not be a bit out of place.

Red...
If you do a scouting run, then why don't you ask him about arrangements for the group when we come? I was going to call him, but asking in person might be better.

So it's agreed then? Friday dinner at Jamie's? We'll all meet at the Holiday Inn, Alcoa? What time should we meet? I'm in for the return trip through scenic roads. Has anyone made reservations?

At noon Bart? Isn't that kind of early? If it's a couple hour ride I think we should wait til 4 or so to leave. I'd really like to get up and leave the hotel at 9am or so and hit the Gap and the Cherahola and 361 and 28. By the time that's all done it'll be well past noon. Chances are I'll meet you there or pass if most of the day is just going to Asheville for dinner.

Chris,
Why not leave early enough to ride your route and then meet us at the CroT as we come through probably around 12:30 or 1 pm?
