Deal's Gap 2006, The Legend Continues...
Well guys, another Deal's Gap trip is in the books and as usual it was a major blast. I am stoked to say that for ONCE nobody in our crew received any tickets, or even got pulled over!!! That deserves a HUGE IMHO because we have had our fair share of trouble in the past. We still rock -n- rolled, but we toned it down just a bit, and definitely were more choosey about where we dropped the hammer. Chris and I ran up on a Ranger on the BRP and wisely stayed back to survey the situation. It paid off for sure.
We stayed at a different cabin this time and it was super nice, and WAY off the beaten path. Very isolated, and that was good for us. With all the beer drinking and stuff it's nice to know you aren't under any watchful eyes.
We ran into the .org guys on the Cherohala Skyway, it was nice to meet some of them. I'm still hoping that Chris, Harry, and I didn't offend anyone as we worked our way through the pack. We gave everyone tons of room and only passed on the left. We also went over to Fontana Village one night on a road trip and met up with them. Mostly talked with Voz during our brief visit.
A few pics....

Harry at the overlook

A couple pics of the fog / clouds that Chris and I encountered up on the Blue Ridge Parkway. You like danger, try railing 30 miles of this stuff on those roads. YIKES!!!!

A cool pic of mine and Chris' bikes at Maggie Valley, NC. I think it's an awesome shot.

Here is a pic with a hell of a story. I made some "Harry" tank protectors for the trip. This little jewel almost made it 300 miles before it blew off. No pun intended..... LMFAO!!!!

There are tons of stories and many more pics to share. I just want to thank everyone who was there for an awesome time. It was a damned good time, a week of excess for sure.

Yeah Otis, it did go by too damned fast. I was a happy camper for sure as we had a good mix of riding, and kicking it back at the shack.
Reality has once again set in with a vengence though, and it is back to the ol' grind. The post-trip blues are kicking in and I am finding myself already warping back to last week. It was nice to ride the BRP again, you realize it has been since September of '03 since we've rode it. All the rides were fun, and again I have to say WOO HOO!!!!!!! NO FUCKING TICKETS!!!!! We definitely played our cards right and MADE that happen. I hope it is a trend that continues.
I have looked at the pictures about 20 freakin' times already. Gina really liked them and said we are all crazy and need help. I agreed.

That sucks Harry, sorry to see that shit. You would think if a guy had a ZX10 he would know not to use the rear brake. That was senseless.
Voz hope you feel better soon man. Every time I left the gap I thanked God that my bike and I was in one peice. The roads are crazy fast but I love it down there. It's addictive.

You guys all have a good lookin group of 12R's. Rogers bike is one of the sharpest I've ever seen. I didn't get to see Bret's bike because of his late arrival. Sorry I didn't get to rip up the Skyway with you guys Monday afternoon. I was stuck playing wet nurse to my girlfriend on her 636 most of the week. It really put a damper on my riding this year. IT WON'T happen again. She'll either get her shit together and run a decent pace or get left behind at the house next year. I was crying in my helmet watching you guys roll off in the distance. Also the 10R don't feel as good up there as the 12 does either. The Skyway must have been designed with the 12 in mind. The 10 feels a little absent up there at speed.

Dude I can relate, I've brought female companions over there before. They can really hinder a ride. I was hoping some of you guys would "go" with us. We ran a nice pace, though it was a couple clicks down from our norm. Honestly though, that is how we planned it due to our fine luck we've had with LEOs in the past. Our plan worked because we had fun, still rode pretty fast, and left with no added blemishes on the ol' driving record. I must thank my buddy Chris for the fine job he did at keeping us out of trouble. I usually set the pace with Chris in tow, we did the exact opposite this time and it worked out good. He actually showed more restraint than I thought he could and I'm proud of him. I slipped once on the BRP and started ripping it up and riding like the old days, but what little sanity I've got prevailed and I motioned for Chris to take the point again. He gets mad props for a job well done.

This ain't the first time I've heard this, and I've witnessed some literbikes get shuffled back by the ol' 12R there. No doubt the 12 is NOT a track bike, nor is it the weapon of choice at the gap. But it is still a force to be dealt with on "normal" roads, and when it comes to the Skyway, Foothills Parkway, and even the BRP, I think you are in the 12R's "house".
Hope to see you up there again man, we'll roll for sure. We talk mucho shit here, but you saw firsthand that we ain't bullshittin'. Some good, mature, and fast riders in our group that don't pull bonehead moves and put others at risk.
Unlike the dipshit on the 10R that took out Harry's 12R at the overlook. I still can't believe Harry didn't do a hat dance on that fucker's head!!!!!!!!!

Yeah Gunner I was hoping you wold have hooked up with us too. I know you had your hands full with all those others though. We had a great pace on teh Cherahala, my favorite road by far, well that and the Parkway. I had the mojo going on that day, you know where everything just lines up right and all the turns are hit perfect and all the exits are ripping. Love it. Damn I want to go back.
As far as the 12 being the better bike for that road than the 10? NOT A DOUBT!!!
