I wouldn't let it go that far and would ride 0 miles with cords showing!!! When You'll get it chaged be sure to go and see just how thin the tires are after the thread has gone. That keeps You from riding them till the cords show. The MC tyres are very thin and still they are the only thing keeping You the right side up!

Well if it's the back one I'd make it go as many miles in one spot as it took to go boom in front of the buddies but I wouldn't ride the bike any further down the road. The few extra miles on the tire and the perceived money savings aren't worth the added risk of an accident that could seriously hurt you or the bike. And this coming from someone that will ride with a peanut shell helmet on a regualr basis, I'm definately not with the safety police.

if it's a steel belt number, wouldn't suggest popping it, as the steel threads get wrapped around the axel and are a pain to get off (mroe so than nylon).
i've ridden quite far on a tire with steel showing the whole way around, but had to baby it for fear of it letting go, and i didn't like it one bit. drive it slowly home or to your dealer and call it a day.
