zx12 questions

Hello , i have had my 2003 zx12 for about 6 months now and i got it new in the crate oct 2005 . best early X-mas gift ever !

I love the bike i do have some questions though that id like to ask you guys about .

1. noticing more vibes ( Buzz ) now that i have 3500 kms on the clock in the 4500 rpm range , normal ?

2. bike seems to have lost a little power or im just getting used to it ?, need more damm power !, never though id say that bout a zx12r , is there anyway of telling if you need valve adjustments other than taking it in ?

3. will the usual mods pc111 k&n and slip on produce noticable torque gains ? with out having to cane the crap out of the engine all the time , short stroke engine pitfalls ?

4. is there a possability that i could install a sacond counter ballancer on this engine ?

5. have any of you ever had to adjust out play in the throttle ?

6. do any of you're bikes wheelie easily in 1,2,3 gear ? ( i am concerned about power again )
Headlights , any recomondations on after market bulbs ?

thanks for the help guys !

The 12r does have a buzzy range like any other inline 4. Nothing you can do about it assuming the preload on the counter balancer is ok. It is adjustable but if you dont hear a whine or a rattle then its mostlikely good.
As far as power... the valve adjustment wouldnt make any noticable power loss. Not unless it was real real bad, in that case there would be other symptoms also like ticking or backfireing.
The bike should be about 160 hp+/- stock. add a pipe, airfilter, some ignition advance and you should see about 15 +/- hp increase.

No you cant install a second counter balancer.

Yes throttle play can be adjusted out. Thats the first thing i always do when i get a new bike home. All new bikes have huge throttle play. Its just the way they set them. Its very easy to adjust. Just make sure you turn the bars all the way both directions while adjusting so you can prevent throttle bind when the bars are turned..

1. Yes

2. That does happen, but if you change the front sprocket to a 17 tooth and add a full pipe it's like a new bike again!!!

3. Yes...I recommend just adding a full pipe, that's it...It's cheaper than adding a power commander and dyno tunned, which you never get what you pay for with the dyno tune!!!

4. What Y2KZX12 said!!!

5. Yes

6. Yes, but you need a full pipe and 17tooth front sprocket...After market bulbs for what???...Use OEM...

Also making sure that Your TPS is adjusted correctly and Your throttle bodies are in very good sync will make the bike buzz less. It's best to sync them Yourself because usually the dealer mechanic dosen't have the patience the sync them dead even. Also everything else is in very good shape makes it better but there will always be some buzz at that RPM range. Just ride faster!!!!

Thanks for the info , i am going to take my first longer ride out of the city tomorow on my 12r cant wait , wear bars on the rear tire are begining toi show thou , new tire on the way .

17 tooth sounds like a good idea since it could use more torque in my opinion , still a wicked machine .
