That makes a fella wonder just how efficient the 12 block and head is.........
You would think that with 1199 cc, we could build one that would get up to that 196 on stock stroke and bore, I have been thinking about just dropping in some cams, and putting more compression in..........

Remember, 196 hp on the flats isnt 196 hp at sea level.

NOX, maybe take advantage of the cams and if there is not a drop in HP
at red line, then extend that rev limiter to gain some of that extra HP
in the red.
I hear some crazy people (MH) have extended thier Busas to 14K,
You would think it could then easily be done to a 12 also. Some
of these new bike are unbelievable with their 17K+ red lines.

That's right, 196 at sea level on a 59 degF day gets you about 156hp at a density altitude of about 6800 feet, which is what you'll find at 4200 feet on a 90F day (a common environment at the salt). Figure a 3%drop in hp per 1000 ft increase in density altitude.)
THAT"S WHY IT'S SO HARD!
BTW my ZX-11 was VERY slippery. Better I think, than the 12.

In that case, I'll start with Maxton, and leave the salt to the big boys.
I think the current naked record in 1350cc (I'm a damn 1080) at Maxton is 203.6mph, by a turbo Busa. Is it conceiveable that I could break that? Any guesses how much power I would need to go 205?

Dean, just for reference if this helps:
I ran my bike several times naked vs. faired, on the same day at Maxton (ZX12R with precisely 194rwhp N/A that particular weekend). I was running consistant 198-201 mph N/A faired.
When I removed the bodywork, speeds dropped to 176-178 mph. That is a 20-25 mph loss just for removing the bodywork. I would attribute some of that loss to not having the snorkel assembly mounted to the airbox on a ZX12R, but most of it is plain aero loss.

Thanks for the offer Karl, I may take you up on it. The first Maxton I could make isn't until Sept, so if I like it, (or I miss it) Oct is close. I need to check the naked records at Texas and Bonneville.
Berg thanks for the info. I wonder if I can run my stock 1/4 fairing and still be 'naked'? Hope so.

I doubt it. No fairing allowed forward of the rider, except your front fender. There is also a limitation on the size of the headlight. The ZX12R headlight is not legal and therefore must be removed (for non-faired classes).

ZRXDean, it would be to cool to see ya out at the Texas Mile.
I think the fastest naked I have seen at the mile was an old air
cooled turbo bike, probably ran in the 170's or 180's. For your
class I do not think they have any current records, if ya run in a
SCTA LSR catagory.
You might just end up being the fastest Kawasaki out there.
I think the current record is 195-196mph.
Would be real cool to see JC out with his 1397 hairdryer!!!

Can not wait to see all the Big 12's going out to the Mile. Would be neat to get
Buddy, Ralf, and Bossman out too.
Usually just one or two 12s make an appearance.
Guess we'd have to talk GBusa (George) into doing it too, I think he might
go 1507 with a dry shot.

I think its about 13-15 hours depending on how fast you drive. I would assume
you could just drop down on to I-10 and shoot right on over to Houston, from
there I think you would take 59 South. Getting through Houston would be the
hard part make sure to avoid any times from 6:30am-9:30am, 11:30pm-1:30pm,
and 3:30pm-7:30PM. Entropy can give ya a little better idea as he lives in the
SouthWest part next to 59. I have not lived there for 10 years, but I don't think it
has changed much for the better, traffic wise.
Would be cool to see ya come down and sample a little Texas Hospitality.

Tracy at Speedfab is the freaking man (http://www.tgfab.com)....this project has been going on forever but the results are astounding.
few trips to the track to work out the low range bugs (and to keep the plugs from fouling) and this thing will ride the fuck out
never took it above 10k on its shakedown runs and it still clocked 154mph (and +35mph on the big end...just not on that run) with a 290lb rider
just to reiterate....this is an absolutely 100% bone stock motor as it came off the line from kawasaki and I bought it new in 01 with zero miles on it. no headwork, no cams, no new pistons/rods/crank/blah blah blah....nothing at all has been changed to the motor. (it does run autolite plugs...so you got me there).
big thanks to Ryan and Kevin (that cadby guy who's been a stranger here because he works so damn hard!) at Stock Mild to Wild (http://www.stockmildtowild.com) for allowing us the use of their dyno and their time! truly good people!
cant wait to get back to the track and relearn how to ride after such a long hiatus!

300HP at 11psi, Dang!!! That turbo on top of that high compression sure makes it go.
Aren't many of them 12 turbos around.
