Interesting topic. I have a strange set of rules that I live by. First I don't want to endanger anyone but myself. That doesn't mean I wont ride fast when others are around. Also I will not risk my life or anyone else's to pass a car, I can wait till it is safe, not necessarily legal, but safe. In congested areas, i go with the flow of traffic, signal and turn my head at every turn and lane change. And never follow cars too close. Now this doesn't mean I wont do stupid stunts, sometimes I just can't help the occasional wheelie in not so smart places. Hey I'm only human. And I am especially careful if I think there is a ticket to be had.
Now when the armed meter mollies are sitting on the freeways roasting their nuts with radar guns, and I am on a twisty road ,to me that is time to dial it up a bit. But there are rules there also, I never cross the center line unless to pass, Wheelies out of corners are mandatory if there is enough room. Darkies are also mandatory. Any and all riders that are there to enjoy the twists are to be passed, preferably with the front wheel in the air. If the road doesn't allow that the rear wheel should be spinning. If the other riders are taking off at the same time, It is also mandatory to give them a big head start and run them down (if possible).
I don't do many track days, IMHO there are too many people there willing to throw away their bike by riding over their heads. And to be honest I don't want to be taken out by them. I am too old for that shit. I am a street rider, I love to go fast on challenging roads. I will not ride over 70% of my ability. And yes when I ride with groups that don't know me I get the you are crazy crap, and you are going way too fast . So I try to go with riders that know me and can have fun.
If I see a guy riding over his head, I am the first to say something. I have been on too many rides that I have had to help pick up down riders trying to keep up. We want to have fun, not go to the hospital.
As for running from cops,,,, that is a tough one. If i know, I mean know I can get away with it, I will do it. For example A cop is going the other way and can't catch my plate and I know there is a place to hide or just disappear, I may go for it. But if he can radio ahead and have someone waiting for me, I'm stopping. I don't want to go away in handcuffs.

I like this topic and when I read your post it could have been me writing it for the most part. Safe is a relative term.

What gives Ted, too much partying for your taste????
As far as what you said about doing those things on a 10 with ease, I don't doubt you one bit. Just another reason in a long list of many as to why I don't need / own one.

I am no party animal, I am a gearhead and a dyed in the wool motorcycle nut. That being said the smackhouse goes off topic way too often and gets personal. I like to talk bikes and associated subjects for the most part. Don't get me wrong, I like a good pissing contest as well as a battle of wits. But I don't have the time, It is hard enough to keep up with the boards I do watch, which isn't many. What I enjoy most is being able to give someone good advice about their bike or riding and learning something in the process. I can only take the political stuff in small doses.
Oh yes, I forgot to answer the main question. I admit it, I am a stupid MF.

Now I see.....
Now I see Ted, you are uninformed my brother. The smackhouse I am speaking of is not the copycat forum on bikeland. It is the name of whatever cabin us guys stay at when we're doing the Deal's Gap Events each May. Hence the "Smackhouse Gang", a bunch of sportbiking enthusiast such as yourself. Albeit a group with a flare for a bit of partying as well. You may be a more of a refined hooligan Ted, but you'd have a blast tearing up those mountain roads with us.
Now let's get back to the name "Smackhouse". We used that name way before that joke of a forum was created, and it is a goddamned joke. It fucking oozes a liberal bullshit agenda IMHO, but I still go over there and start shit every once and again. I've read some good topics over there, but for the most part I stay away.
This may not sway your stance, but at the minimum you are more informed.
Party on Ted.

Thank you for the update and I stand corrected. I would love to ride with you guys. Too bad it is so damn far away from me. Although you guys would love some of the roads around here.
That is what I don't like about that forum, anyone who isn't a Bush minion is labeled a Liberal. Tell me I am wrong.

I want even touch on political issues, it'll become an instant shitstorm.
I know we would love some of your roads, and if Chris and I ever do our ride out that way maybe we can look you up. We've talked about it for a few years now, and I 'spect someday it'll happen. I may have to road test some of those high mileage tires that fish and freek have recently ran.

I know we will Chris, I have no doubt.
Before we do though, we need to outfit our bikes with all the latest radar detecting/ jamming, and laser detector/ jamming equipment. Can you imagine the fuggin' tickets we'd receive on a 2 week road trip???

What you do is tie it in with Laguna.
Let's talk tires for a moment. I went through the stock tires in about 1500 miles, keep in mind that 1000 of those were easy break in miles. I put on the Michelin powers and I have never had tilres last so long. Granted the sides are toast but the centers have thousands left. The multi compound really lets you get milage for those freeway miles and the sticky sides are like glue when the road knots up. Serious tires.
