I dont feel so bad then.....Mark rolled on past me as well, but I was riding the RR......and the Mercy light kept blinking at me......lmfao

I ride pretty sane on the back roads....problem arond here is if I didnt ride sanely, I woudl ride alone, there are only a few guys here that actually ride, or can ride fast enough to make me think I am going to fast on the street.....I liek riding with the Smackhouse crew, its a chance for me to get out and wick it up a bit with some silly bastidges that can ride....And make no mistakes, 90% of the guys that I have ridden with at the DG rallies can RIDE....

I have taken most of my need for speed antics to the track....I was fortunate enough to have a wife that understands this and allowed me to pick up a trackbike.....Unfortunately I got hooked on the track and totaled my street bike, so now I am down to just the 10. Its a decent street bike, and a very fun track bike.

For those of you that havent ridden with Otis or Ninjaman, Harry, BallisticZX12, Dave, Roger, Lucky12, Crashtech, and some of the others, just dont know what they are saying. These fellas ride fast and ride well.....Their 70% is like most peoples 90%...I have watched Ninjaman drag toes going through the gap with the wife on the back, I have watched Harry grind off his boot, and watched Roger ride some serious freaking wheelies.....All in all its a very good time with a very good bunch of guys....man I am gonna miss the DG rallies for the next few years....

As far as being a thrill seeker, or silly mofo, I have to agree with freek, I think I am a thrill seeker to an extent, I love to anything fast.....and if there is a hint of danger, so be it.....and sometimes I am a stupid mofo.....riding the back country roads around here leaned over almost to the point of draggin a knee, only to realize the road in front of my is covered in horse shit..... I have had my close calls as we all have.....but it jsut keeps us on our toes, and when you get that rush of adrenaline, and your heart starts pounding from the near miss you jsut had, it lets you know you are alive, and that, your over your 70% mark....

Do any of you use scanners while riding? I'm thinking of getting one next year. Atleast you know if the cop who's pursuing you has called ahead and what not.

Jim,
You sort of hit the nail on the head as to why I go to the Gap and ride with those worthless sumbiatches. I'm actually riding WITH some guys that like to roll. Plus you don't have to worry about anyone doing stupid shit and taking you out in the process. Very solid, and seasoned riders with plenty of miles of railing twisties under their belt. I hate that you are going to miss out on the rallies for the next few years, but I understand your situation. We'll be sure and drink one for ya in May bro. Hell I may burn one in your honor. Last May it was only 4 of us, and I swear it was insane even with just 4 guys. We all had the times of our life and I can't wait to do it again.

Oh yeah, I didn't know that Lucky got you whilst you were on the RR. At least you can say you were on a 600, I can't say shit other than I got my ass handed to me. LOL

That's right Rick, riding with you bastards is the shit cause I never have a single worry or doubt when we go into a fast turn on the Cherahala with you only a foot in front of me and Harry only a foot behind me. That my friends is what riding is all about for me. Then again that fella on the Foothils last May didn't feel all too comfortable with you and I dogging him like we did. Man I still feel bad about that...NOT! LMAO Greatest memory of any DG trip EVER!

Ditto Chris ..............

I know it sure felt good to serve that unsocial bastard a heaping helping of Humble Pie. Next time he may not be so cocky when dealing with older dudes who ride bikes that are far inferior to his shiny new R1. Only thing that coulda made it better is if he'd had a few of his buds with him, they'd have never let him live it down. LMFAO!!!!

I never speed when I'm at the Gap, just ask this guy:

And this is just my shopping list....

Good talking to you today. Tommorrow I'm going to ride one of these:

Don't worry, it's out of my budget, but the dealer is opening and I've never ridden something that looked like that, so what the hell.

I've ridden a couple of those in the past and to be honest I would just a soon drag Barbed Wire up my ASS before I ride one again. The ones I rode sucked ass, and not to mention the damn belt primary drive was trying to eat my foot off!!!!!!!!!!!!! If that's the price a man has to pay to be cool I'll happily say I can't afford it

Damn Dave.............. LOL

Dave,
Good pics , and how the hell did you ever convince the Park Ranger to pose??? He looks so happy about it!!!! LOL

It was great to hear from you yesterday, shit it's been quite a while since we've talked. I left out of the office after we got off the phone, and on my drive to pick up my son I had more than one outburst of laughter thinking about some of the stuff we talked about. I was real glad to hear from you, and hope like hell to see you next spring.

Oh yeah, and about the chopper. I see quite a few of them on bike night and though they aren't the most functional pieces to roll down the highway I really like them. Some of the guys put a lot of time and effort , and yes money , into making something totally unique. All of them are not sportbike hating bafoons either. I've talked to some pretty cool chopper guys that actually own some jap stuff as well. I also love how insanely loud some of those damned big V-twins are. I can dig it.................

I guess i have both sides covered.

stupid MF side: Yup, BTDT. secluded open highway in middle of BFE without houses or entries, gone like a flash ;P

safety nazi side: i now do track days. MUCh cheaper over the course of a year than getting even one stupid ticket. And when i crash i don't wait 45 minutes for the ambulance to show up..

rant:

On street i WILL have to say this: don't pass me on a curve. I don't care how good you are, in a curve the road is mine. I am NOT playing games there because *ANYTHING* can change and i am not giving up my safety margin ESPECIALLY on a curvy mountain road so someone can pass me. If you're on my back wheel i WILL wave you by when it is clear. I've waved cars by because the pace they wanted to go was faster than the group i was with. (friend's first run through gap, wasn't about to just up & leave them)

I've had too many close calls on deal's gap from rossi wannabe's trying that inside pass going for the win. I've had it up to here with these self-important a$$holes who think it is their God-given right to pass wherever and whenever they please, and everyone else be damned. IT'S NOT A F***ING TRACK.

Show a little courtesy and you'll never be bothered by my slow self again. Cause a crash and you better have good insurance. Cause a crash when i have a passenger you better run and keep running.

It's simple. We are all out there to enjoy the ride and to feel the thrill of the acceleration and speed rush the motorcycle gives us. There are 318 curves in 11 miles, it won't kill you to wait until after the curve we are in to pass.... Actually it *CAN* kill you. If you hurt my passenger *I* might kill you.

I agree with Slug, but I think its an accepted thing with the smackhouse guys...I wouldnt give it a second thought if Rick or Otis, or any of them passed me on the outside.....welli take that back, I might think, "whats this slow ass mofo doing trying to pass ME???". lol

I would however be considered on and inside pass, by ANYONE....but I have never seen an inside pass from one of these guys. On and outside pass if they crash they arent taking me with them, inside is obviously a different story.....

The way I do it personally is to park slightly off the back tire of someone I want to pass. If they don't move I'll usually show them a wheel up the inside, BUT not pass. This is about as nice of a way as I know to let them know they need to move over and let me by. 95% of the guys I encounter will allow you to get by within a corner or two. The other 5% are just bone heads and I'll usually slow down and just let them go. I also get this same thing done to my ass by faster guys. I usually see a faster guy coming long before he's there and I've already picked a place to allow him by before he ever has to show me a wheel. Like I said 95% of the guys I come across are decent guys. The other 5% are riding a Busa anyway

slow ass mo fos????????? :)

Jim, in all the miles the smackhouse boyz have ridden together I have seen only a couple of stupid passes. Both done by the same individual, the Broham we all know and love Heider. That guy is a friggin' menace to sportbikers and we are lucky that he only took himself out at the gap that day. He is no longer a part of our group, and quite frankly that suits me fine because the boy worried me from the second I met him. I tried real hard to like the guy, I don't think anyone will dispute that fact. But when you ride over your head and take multiple stupid chances that could take out one of my brothers, I am fucking done with you, end of discussion.

I tell you, you will be hard pressed to find another group like the Smackhouse Boyz. That's why I do everything possible to set aside at least one week a year to go ride with 'em. I have never ever worried about Chris, Harry, Mike, Lucky, Red, Jon, Dave, Roger, or any of the others doing anything stupid. A better group of guys would be hard to find.

gunner: my favorite move is to park in clear view of their wing mirror and while cornering behind them, prop my head up with my left arm on the tank. and drum my fingers pointedly on the side of my helmet.

the ones that have mental function pick up on it pretty quickly.

One exception is when someone is obviously driving in a manner that puts lots of people at risk. The double-yellow crossers get an earful. 2 FIAAM low tone 130DB horns mounted, and when their tires cross the DY i nail it. *most* motorists pick up on it after the 3rd or 4th time. Others aren't as bright. I had one blonde in a F150 that i followed in this manner from gravity cavity all the way to the final hairpin before the calderwood dam access road.... THEN she pulls over to side and gives me the finger. I slow down and yelled at her that if she ever learned how to drive and stay INSIDE the lines she might not kill someone.

she still looked at me like it was *MY* fault she couldn't operate a motor vehicle...

o well. i hope she got her tampon in a knot.

I can honestly say that Lucky12 has never passed me....Of course that's because I never was stupid enough to start out in front of him

Some friends and I rode with him out by Oak Ridge on some sweet roads. Mark was just out for a leisurely ride. I, on the other hand, was riding as hard as I dared just trying to keep his tailight in sight so I could see if he was braking for the next corner. I was too busy to look down at my gauges, but one of my buddies did and said he saw 170mph more than once. That was a RIDE!!
Mark also let me ride his bike that day. We both had '00 ZX-12r's, but the difference in power and handling was unbelievable. His bike felt like a 600. Just gos to show what proper mods and someone who knows how to set up a bike can do. Oh...not that his bike is why he was so fast. he still schooled me when he was riding my bike.

zx11...dont feel bad, you arent the only one tha thas been to Marks school of humility......lol

Rick I agree wit what you said about never finding a more solid group of riders. I ride with the guys up here and shake my head. I have heard some of these boys talk so much trash while we were hanging out you woudl think they were Rossi mentor.....only to go out and see that they ride like sissy girls (sorry ladies) with sticks up their asses. Had one fella that has R1 Killer embroidered on his seat, good guy, just not the rider he tought. WE bullshitted around a while and he had to make the comment, "I am going to have to add the ZX12R to my seat", my comment was, "you better find a differnt ZX12R to pick on then that GSXR1000 aint all that". We laughed a bit and watched the boys drag race a while.

When it was time to go I seen him get to the front of the pack, and knew he was going to try to check out on the curvy roads on the way back. he and I left and checked out on everyone. I followed about a bike length back to the first stop. He turned around when we stopped and said "you ride that big bike pretty good", I just smiled and said thanks.
We took off for my favorite road around here, and the one HE showed me, so he knew it well. On the 2nd corner I decided I had had enough following, when he went wide in the 3rd turn I passed him on the inside and waved to him as I passed him, then checked out....the road is 4 miles long and I had the helmet off and was sitting on the kickstand waiting for him at the end.........He was shaking his head when he got off the bike. All he could say was dam that thing runs.....I told him make sure he found a differnt ZX12R to whoop up on, then we laughed.
Well one day I got this fella to go to Nashville with me to go ride with Brett and Roger. after a day of spirited riding with the 2 boys from Nashville, he didnt know what to do with him self......Every stop we would be stuck waiting for him, sometimes for very long periods of time,......lol

On the trip home I told him about the smackhouse crew and that everyone rode like those guys and invited him to a Rally....he just smiled and said "no thanks, I am not ready yet" and we laughed.

Around here Reggie was the man to ride with, everyone thought he was the corner guy. He even had "Kurve Kowboy" painted on his bike....

I guess the point is that I have been to many areas, and posts around the country, and have never found another GROUP, of riders that had as much respect, talent, and comroderie(sp). And those that have never been to a rally, just dont know......

I did find a guy here that I woudl love to see come to a rally....every once in a while you find a guy tha twoudl fit in witht eh crew, their attitude and riding style. I brought one one time to a rally, and I am sure you all remember Gene, that crazy sum biatch...But my buddy Ken woudl fit in as well, he has been my trackday partner since I got here to Ft Knox and is a helluva rider. Flies Apaches for the Army, adn treats his GSXR1000 like its his helicopter....lol Maybe I will be able to get him to a rally one time.....I hope, I think its something everyone should do once in their life atleast....lmfao

werd to yo mutha Jim.

You'd never think that a group of satan worshipping crack smokers would be able to actually ride, much less ride well, and in a group no less. The thing is, there aren't any bashful people in this group. If someone gets out of line, be it on the road, or back at the cabins, they will be talked to. We've had entirely too much fun, and cherish these trips far too much to let somebody with an axe to grind fuck it all up. It will be handled, and handled as the peer group sees fit. Again, pretty impressive when you consider it's a group of dope smoking retreads. But hear me now, when someone crosses the line we can step out of the role of hooligans that seem to not give a fuck, or have a care in the world. Amazingly we then become rational grown men with a purpose.

Case and point, remember the Norm incident??? My first instict, and I was vocal about it the instant we all figured out what was going on, was to go kick his ass proper like and let him know that he wasn't welcome anymore. I said that in front of the entire group which you were a part of. Then I slowed my role and we ALL started debating on how to handle it AS A GROUP. It was then decided that me taking it to the physical would be an even bigger blemish on the event, and make a bad situation even worse. It was agreed that we'd address Norm in the AM after the Budweisers had worn off and we'd let him know how dissapointed that we all were, and that if that was the way he was gonna act we'd rather him not come around us. Note that we were all drunk off our asses when we made this decision as a group. Hell dude, Cheech and Chong would've been passed out by the time this all took place. Even as wasted as we all were, the proper decision was made and agreed upon by everyone in a matter of minutes. The decision was carried out the next day as planned, and we all know the aftermath. It's water under the bridge, and I understand that Norm is trying to get his life back on track, and for that I applaud the man. I wish him the best of luck.

I know I got off track a bit, but my point is, this is a good group and either you fit in or you don't. It has had an uncanny way of policing itself, and that is ok by me.
