It hasn't sunk in yet... but our bike has been discontinued
Geez...
We now own a bike they don't even make anymore... dropped, like an fat chick.
In a few years it will be an antique... people will say, "Oh, that's the old Kawasaki
that got dropped..."
Jesus, it just hasn't set in yet... we now ride a bike they don't even make anymore...

Almost embarrassing .... "old and outdated..." ouch.
That to me is like dropping the Corvette... or the Mustang!!!
The 12 WAS the Flagship of Kawi... and overnight it went from the top dog to neutered
puppy kicked to the curb...

I actually think that it's cool. It just means that fewer people will be riding the same bike as us. I have been to so many races where I was the only 12. I would absolutely hate to show up to a race only to see that everyone is riding the same bike as me. The only thing that's good for is emergency spares. Other than that, I prefer to be an individual.

It has never mattered to me whether my bike stayed in production, except where concerned about buying a replacement. That will be many years down the road, and so I would expect change no matter what.
Or, if (particularly since my bike is being modified a lot) I decide to keep her indefinitely, then all this means is, within a year or two I ought to stock up on necessary replacement parts, so as not to get into a situation where 10 years later you can't find something.
Either things stay the same forever, like with the Concours, or they move on...
Now I DID think it was very cool and very much approved of how the Z-1 engine family kept so much continuity for so long: that kept a lot of parts available.
That may somewhat true here too. Or if not, well, it's rarely the case anymore.
Six years is a good solid production run. Time for the new, and until more info comes in its impossible to say that the 14R frame and motor can't be the base of a better bike than the 12R. We just don't know. So far, the dimensions look so close it seems to me unlikely that that isn't so. Basically all I see is body panels that don't particularly do it for me, but sometimes that's how it is.
Hell, I do like the 12's panels, yet I got a different race upper cowl for it, a different tail/seat piece, and an optional-to-use-sometimes half-fairing side panel set, and an optional-to-use-sometimes streetfighter set... damned if once parts become available the 14 cannot be made the way the owner may want so far as looks, or in your case, 238, you don't even have to wait on anyone but can do whatever you wish yourself. Though I do agree with your point that one should not have to feel compelled to change body panels on a new bike.

the 14 is starting to grow on me...if its priced around 9 and has a monster motor...id consider sellin the bus to upgrade.

Well Jere, I don't know about you, but I also had to go to the doc when the 14 was growing on me... that was getting just too damn big, needed to keep it held down to there.
