Street Races on Great River Road 2-24-02 !!!! We had an awesome time down on Great River Road yesterday. The weather was great other than a little wind. Saw a lot of good races, and a lot of money change hands. Trust me when I say lots, them dope boys always have plenty of loot to bet. Cha-Ching......
We were running at the very end of the road on the concrete bridge. Excellent traction, but kinda weird running downhill, and I actually don't know how long the bridge is. It's definitely not a quarter mile, close to an 1/8. Kinda messed up, but that is their rules.
There were some older model GSXR 1100s there that had been punched out with air shifters etc., 2 GSXR 1ks, 2 Busas,a ZX6R, a CBR1100XX, my 12, and a few other bikes there. A lot of people showed up which kinda had us nervous being that it was a highly "Illegal" activity, but I've seen a bunch of shit go down on that road with no heat. But there is a first time for everything.
All in all it was the boys on the GSXR 1ks day. You take one of those bikes slammed, piped and with a 120-140 lb. jockey on it that can ride and they are tough to beat. I did see them get beat though, but only a couple of times. It took a guy weighing about 130lbs. tops on a piped busa to do it. But he didn't keep doing it. If he'd had his bike lowered he could have done better, his bike wanted to wheelie out of the hole.
My adventures were few, but fun. Got beat everytime , but got props everytime by all the guys there for trying to hang on to that little red MF. I wheelied from start to finish on my runs. I was running one of the old 1100s (which was no slouch) down on one run, but he still got me a bike and a half. My front wheel touched the bridge once after we took off, when it let out of it between first and second, short shifted into 3rd while still in the air and the bitch still kept rising, I was having to baby it to keep from looping out. But he was a little dude on a lowered bike with an air shifter. Things that really help you in a dragrace, plus that old punched out GSXR would run. I on the other hand weight 275, bike set up to ride twisties, no shifter, no straps, and had dogbones set for stock height. I really had no intentions to race because I knew I wasn't set up to do anything BUT ride wheelies. Those guys were really cool and loved watching me try to keep that bastard down, they said if I'd had it slammed and strapped it would be a MF to beat. But then they said that they were glad I didn't have it set down and strapped because they loved the show, told me I was a Crazy MF. I told them my buddy Clint was the crazy one and they asked him what was up with that so he rode a couple of 150mph stand-up wheelies for them. I'd love to get that guy to come to gap 3, he is one bad cat on a bike. A natural, curves, wheelies, drag racing, it matters not to him. He can do it all, and makes it all look so easy. He could ride with Frosty and the boys @ Fast Bikes without a doubt. Rides the best wheelies I have ever seen hands down. I hope some of you guys get a chance to meet him someday, he is a nice guy and the best all around rider I've ever seen.
I will post a few pics later on when I get some time.

Just put my silver 1347 back on the street. Tossed the Kennedy links after the aluminum center sections stripped out! Switched over to a set of 3 hole muzzy links and lowered the beast 1.5 inches front and back. When I take off, the bike just *goes*. Not strapped, but will prolly do so for the track. Right now, just getting used to the difference of riding a bike that's inch and a half lower. Handling's a little funky, but not horrible.

Hey swft.... I've got the 3-hole Muzzy links too. Should've taken advantage of them yesterday. Do your links have Gadson's signature on them?
I've only had my bike lowered once, and that was when I raced the 502 Boss Hoss down on GRR. It was definitely a hoot to launch it lowered and strapped. I could've done pretty well yesterday if I'd been lowered and strapped. But as I said earlier I only intended to watch and take some pics. ____________

Bikes...... Here are some of the bikes. That's Clint's 1k, do you think he let the front down any???? It still didn't keep him from walking some STUPID wheelies.

Races, WHAT Races??????? No officer we just pulled over because we thought somebody was having car trouble.
We'd have been fucked had the fuzz rolled up. Trust me, there were several scanners on hand yesterday. MFs looked like G-Men with the earpieces and shit.

Yep....
quote:Cool pics! Yes, those are the RG sig links.
That's the same links that I have. I used the bottom hole when I ran the BH and the rear tire rubbed!!!! Looked like I had tons of room, but I guess with my big as on there it rubbed under hard acceleration. If I ever drop it down again I WON'T use the bottom hole, I'll use the one in the center. I do not want to fuck up the new undertail I just put on. I would be upset, and that's putting it very mildly. ____________

Looks like it was a blast Ninjaman, I ran a 2001 Bandit 1200S with a Yosh pipe and Stage 3 w/K&Ns with my 1989 FJ1200 w/V&H SS Pipe and Factory Stage 3 w/K&Ns on Saturday. It was a damn good race. He has a slight power advantage on top end. It was a dead heat through the 1/4 mile though. The power difference may be the fact he is about 40 pounds lighter. It was my first taste of racing for the year. I am still pumped. I wish spring would hurry up and get here. Then I can get the 12R completed.

FJs...... Man I had a '91 FJ and I used to ABUSE the shit out of that thing. It never failed me, my riding just outgrew the bike. I did an FZR 1000 wheel mod so I could get some good rubber on the rear, but it still was more comfortable doing the sport touring thing, or straight lining.
I used to do some burnouts on that thing that would even make John Force say "DAMN". That little back tire was no match for the torque of that 1200. I could ignite it so easy it was pathetic, my buddies used to laugh because when you drove up my road you could see all the damned black marks I had layed down leaving my driveway. (wife gave me tons of shit over it ) I think back on it now and wonder how many times the neighbors were calling me a motherfucker. But what the hell, I was the one paying for the tires, and the asphalt held up pretty good. ____________

FJs I bought my FJ for $500 from a friend. The chain had broken and did a number on the countershaft cover mounting area and the parts in the area, and I had to get the cases welded. I have about a $1000 in it now including the repairs to the cases ($300) and the parts on that side of the motor. I rode it for a while, but found the bike was geared way too tall for me. So I replaced the 17/41 sprockets with 15/42. What a difference. It is like a completely different bike. I have to work to keep up on the shifting, not too mention the wheelies!! I don't have the problem with traction like you did. My friend did, but he weighs about 150 lbs to my 250. The bike is a complete blast and used parts are cheap for it so I plan on bracket racing it this year. It is a perfect compliment for my V65 Sabre and ZX-12R IMHO.
As far as leaving black marks on asphalt, sounds like your trying to help keep the road sealed to me!! ____________

Sounds fun....... I wouldn't say I had a traction problem, just that with a little slip of the clutch combined with a handful of throttle produced gobs of tire smoke.
I've got a headlight assembly (minus the bulb) for a '91 model(i'm sure it fits other years as well)if you know anyone that needs it.

FJs What would you want for it? Are bulbs very hard to come by for it? Mine doesn't have the factory fairing on it, so I put a small quarter fairing just to have something to duck under at speed. I have an automotive driving light bolted to the fairing to serve as a headlight. Email me offlist if you would like with a price. Remember, I am a cheap ass
Thanks in advance. ____________
