Oil Pan Mod HELP

I have a minor dilemma here. The asswipes (EPC) that did my engine work the first time also did an "oil pan mod" at the same time.

Since they screwed up the engine work, I have no reason to believe that they did the oil pan mod and the oil-pickup cutting in the proper proportions.

Does anyone have their engine apart that they would be able to easily measure the stock oil pan height and the stock 'full' pick-up length?

I can compare both measurements against what I have to see if I have proper clearance, too much, or too little.

Speaking of which, what is normal and an acceptable margin of clearance between the pickup and bottem of oil pan?

Thx everyone!

BA,

Take a piece of putty (even playdough wil work) and stick it on your pickup tube (I would tape over the opening first to prevent the putty from going inside the tube). Install the pan, tighten and then remove. The thickness of the putty (it will squish out to conform to the air gap) is the clearance. This is essentially the same thing that is done for checking valve clearance....

I also have both! A modified Oil Pan with a Modified pick up and a stock pan with a stock pick up.

As you can see, it is about 1/4 inch between the Bottom of the pan and the edge of the pick up/ That little lip he left there as you can see, sits right on the Bottom of the pan to help keep it on and in place.

Why not drill holes in the sides for more flow?
