Way to go. I quit a little over three years ago cold turkey. The best thing to do is keep telling yourself I am quiting. Not I want to.

Congrats dude! Get the patch if you have a hard time. Been about 8 years for me now. The extra money I had after quitting the 2 pack a day habit is amazing. Two weeks with the patch on & I was done! Lost all desire to smoke; the patch works! I'll never smoke again...

quote:So those patches really work?
Yep, sure does. I was a hard case too. I'd pull them off & sneak a smoke. Then my wife stopped putting them on my arm, & started putting them between my shoulder blades so I couldn't reach them. Then if I smoked the overdose of nicotine would get me sick feeling bigtime. So smoking naturally became undesireable...
First week was a struggle, second week I started feeling like this would work. Two weeks had my last cig & never looked back. The patches work cool... ____________

been a year and a half for me. buy the strongest patches and cut them in half and then quarters as you ween off of them; about the same price regardless of strength. Also, tell the Doc you are stressed out at work so insurance will cover ... and get Wellbutrin (generic equivalent for ZYBAN) together it really helps. I now go through a box of toothpicks a month for oral pacification.
Don't don't don't take another hit ... just to see what it's like, because you are back to square one.
and now this is the only thing I smoke with the money I saved from not smoking...

July 3. Smoke free. Hypnosis, don't know if it worked or just the thought that I'd paid someboby $150 so it better work LOL. I've had a couple to see if it'd worked and after 2 or 3 puffs I'm sick of it. That 4th of July party the next day was whole new lesson in temptation though.
Now if I could just stop drinking a 6 pack of Coke every day and lose this gut I seem to have found. I hate diet anything. ____________

Dino, good going!! I quit 25 years ago and I smoked for 12 years. Started when I was 11. Started so young I had the habit bad. Quit Cold turkey, I used sunflower seeds to keep my hands busy and kept an unopened pack in my pocket so not to have that panic attack thinking you don't have any. 6 weeks later I gave the unopened pack away. Never had another.
Let me say this: That is the best think I ever did with my life. It is a toss up between the laser eye surgery and the quitting. It is amazing how much better you feel overall, how much better everything tastes. It is worth every moment of greif and then some. You will know when you are really there when just the smell of cigarettes disgusts you.
Stick with it dude, we are rooting for you.
