Indy trade show pics.

Dave, Doug, Me and Rob

Think that's enough NOS to feed the 12?

Now that's a scooter! Notice the NOS bottle on the bars.

Just for a few seconds, he was finishing up talking to Doug and was off to some other part of the show. Seems like a really nice guy.(thanks for taking the pic Doug) I also met Andrew Trevitt(another nice guy) while visiting my buddy Steve at the Orient Express booth.

Just leave me alone and I will say anything you want mister!

I harased him for a few minutes. While he did seem to watch his words, he did say that he thought the 12 was way more powerful in its first (pre-release) incarnation. Also that it got bad press because it wasn't the 'Busa destroyer that was promised.

He also wouldn't admit that Canet was a faster rider than him.

I swear that the testimony that I am about to give....

Scooter, without sucking up to Rob and the boys, what did you really think about the Muzzy display? Doug seemed to take umbrage to what I said.

In all honesty, maybe could've used a few more pipes to fill the gridwork they were hanging on. Rickey's ZX12 and ZRX would've been nice too. Otherwise I liked the open air display, the tented "booths" seemed kinda cramped and dark no matter how many lights were set up.
I thought the Castle Walls of the Alpinestar booth sucked. Why in hell would you want to limit access if your there for visibility? Were they worried about people stealing their display wares?

I would like five White Castles, no onion....

That is funny you mention the Alpinestar booth. We thought at first that it was a changing room for a fashion show.

Rocket,
I did take a little "umbrage" to your comment. Let me explain why, and I forgive you for not understanding. This is a wholesale show. We are there for our dealers and distributors, to show and sell. Our dealers are familiar with our basic pipe line, we don't need to beat them over the head with the various iterations. We were introducing (and had special purchase programs for) two new items, an all stainless steel two into one performance cruiser pipe (for the Mean Streak, VTX and Warrior) and our new ATV line. In addition, we were showing our new billet 1460 block for the 'Busa, the billet crank and several "smaller" items (the crank was locked away when you came by after official show hours). We are there to talk to the people who we work with on a business to business basis and we construct our display each year with the emphasis where it is needed. I spoke a lot more about ATV's at that show than I did ZX-12's. Doug Cameron, the Micron distributor, is an old aquaintance of mine (from my days at Illinois Kawasaki in the 70's)and I think he wouldn't mind if I characterized his display as one designed to get the attention of the many dealers that are unaware of their (new) product line. As far as the "complexity" of our display and lack of interesting (to you) vehicles, you must remember that the race bikes are leaving from our shop in Oregon for the first race at Gainseville on this Saturday. To have them at Indy would have required that they be ready almost three weeks ago, shipped to Indy and thense to Gainesville. Keep in mind also that a show display needs to be ship-able and set up or torn down in a few hours. Bringing in vehicles for display adds significantly to the logistical burden.
I gladly take criticism when it is from an informed source, and I didn't think yours was. No harm done.
Doug

I totally agree with you Doug.

There is a lot of EXCESS at the show. The booth was set up to be easy to access. Now for the guys that dont know.what i mean by EXCESS, well i am speaking of the freaking "sideshow exhibits" that have the half dressed girls that look like they would strip for you if you walked up with a dollar bill in your hand. These display areas turn me away. The way i see it,if you are a exhibitor at the show you need to project a professional apperance and attitude at ALL times.(most exhibitors do ) The "side shows" seem to try and pull the OLE SHOCK ROCK attitude and really bring the show down. Everyone likes to see the girls,BUT really is it needed at the show? If my company needed these types of images to sell our products i would not even try to bring our products to the market.

Doug, did you make it down into the basement where the blues band was playing? They were awesome!!! See you in g-Ville.

Thnaks
Doug

Future career in politics?....

Doug, you need to realize that you are on the inside and see what you do for a living (at Muzzys) all the time. Yes it was a trade show. Yes YOUR dealers are familiar with your product. But don't kid yourself, you are nowhere near being a household name. Some of the people who were with me (apparently even more uninformed than I) have heard me on numerous occasions rave about your stuff. They were like huh? This is the performance giant? If somebody comes in their store, and asks for a pipe, well it might just not be a Muzzy if they weren't impressed. The Castrol girls won't get me to buy their oil (well...) but they damn sure will get people in their booth for the sales staff to take a crack at promoting their product.

The other thing is that it IS a trade show. Maybe the one time of the year when you get your picture taken on Gadson's bike, and see all the cool stuff that amounts to a perk of the industry.

I have a picture of myself on Dave Schultz's Sunoco bike from a few years ago. You don't think that I treasure that?

Another Doug....

Doug @ Spencer,

The goofy blue hair LBZ guy and his white furry pantied chicks were a take it or leave it kind of thing. Do you sell to ANYBODY that races (professionally) anything from Superbike to Motocross? The extreme, No Fear, hair on fire thing is IT (although hopefully a fad). No I don't really care for it either, but that is just a matter of personal taste.

As for dragging the show down, Don't you remember the "good old days" in Cincinnati where they had wet T-shirt contests and really provocative fashion shows?

Like it or not, the longest lines were at the girls signing posters.

If you want to complain, do something about the price of food in that place. Yeeesh!

Rocket,

YES, rest assured we sell to ALL performance markets.
When you race professionaly (like i do) it opens markets up, from a business piont of view.
Glad to see you thought that guy was GOOFY looking as well.
LMFAO !!!!!!!!!!

i just feel that those types of booths are way out of taste and if you area vendor or exibitor with a show like that you should be touring with the circus, either way you cut it that stuff is a "sideshow" atmosphere. It is ALWAYS nice to see Nipples poking through a SKIMPY shirt, with breast HARDLEY "hanging" in th shirt---- with a young kid (maybe your kids or someone elses kids) standing there drewlinhg at the mouth...isn't it? They should rate the show PG-13 or R

And YES the fodd prices were CRAZY---$2.25 for a coke ? HOT TA MIGHTY !!!

Rocket,
Good, now give me some constructive criticism. What could I do to more impress your friends with our product? More pipes? The pipes mounted on bikes? (keep in mind I showed one each of each style muffler on either titanium or stainless, all 4 Jap. brands. Three kinds of cylinders, one crank and about 10 pre packaged smaller items, plus two vehicles).
I'm quite serious. What should I do next year to capture those buyers?

ITS A TRADE SHOW NOT A T&A SHOW

...my two cents...okay, maybe fifty...RocketJ, could it be that your friends didn't know who or what a MUZZY is because they (your friends) have limited knowledge of the aftermarket?...I'm with Doug and Doug on professional presentation (which may be too sterile for those who feel T&A shows are a necessity...personally, I don't...I like it in my bedroom or somewhere private )...I go to the trade shows to look and learn what's happening in the industry...sometimes I learn something new, sometimes its just to see people I've dealt with on the phone many, many times and to form better working relationships...ITS A TRADE SHOW...my guess is that your friends will, in time, know what a MUZZY or any other manufacturer/product is if they remain enthusiasts long enough and do their homework (start by reading magazine ads or jumping on the internet)...afterall, didn't we all start out from scratch knowing nothing and eventually knew more as we became more involved with the business and our sport?...BTW...I used to be in the Hi-Perf automotive aftermarket business and have attended several SEMA trade shows...unless you're in the business, you'd never know the frustrating logistics of the balancing the display for asthetic appeal, ease of packaging, etc., and still try to satisfy everyone in attendance...not as easy as it seems...also, you say MUZZY is not a household name...to whom?...my guess is that more people who have been longtime hi-perf motorcycle enthusuiasts know exactly who MUZZY is and what they've contributed to the industry and sport...don't take this as a bash, but who are YOU kidding?...and no, I'm not a former MUZZY employee and I don't suck up to ANYBODY...but that steering dampener shure iz all kinds of purty....bahahahahahaha!!!!!!

Wow, can't believe this is an issue! I go to the shows to see/talk to the company reps. I can remember the 2001 show, blasting the K&N rep because they had listed the KA-1099 filter for eight months and not produced one yet.

A little bit of humility wouldn't hut either...

Doug, human beings, and those in an industry like this one, tend to be rather tactile. Touchy-feely if you will. Put a couple of gee-whiz-golly-bikes there and see what happens. Give out stickers. Get the name out. If you are trying to break into the ATV and Cruiser market, do something that captures the eye. That is a damn big show, many people are there for only one day, and you may only have 5 or 10 seconds (at most) to capture an audience. I would think that your job is not just preaching to the converted. Like I have said previously, you guys for the most part, make good stuff. You sell to a niche of a niche market. Whether you want to expand or not, that is up to you.

Look at the decals on Formula One cars. Most people don't drive one of those to work every day. They do make the connection (real or not) that if Michelins are good enough for race cars, then they are certainly good enough for the Family Truckster. Wow! this company makes stuff that sets land speed records? And they are developing a Pro stock motorcycle? That just has to be good enough for my quad!

There is another post on here, where East Bay Dave is asked by the U.P.S. man: what is a Muzzy? The last time I checked, U.P.S. drivers had a fair amount of disposable income.
