ZX-12 starting trouble.

Hi all.
Been a long time.I didn't ride for quite some time now
Today i decide to ride again, i went to pick up a new battery since the one i had died. The 12 sat a year with out starting and today i'm trying to start it but no joy.
My pc3r is connected i even disconected it but still no joy.

Any of you have an idea for this problem?

thanks

Some may not agree, but i would give it a good shot of Starting Fluid in the nose. Sometimes the first start is hard, for engines that sit for a while.

By using a small amount of starting fluid you would be able to confirm that the engine has spark: If it coughs and sputters, the problem is most likely fuel related.

Don't worry about the starting "fluid". You can also use WD-40 if you want....

The fuel really gets that bad - or atleast can get. With my brothers KTM single I nowadays won't even bother trying to start it after the winter with the old fuel in it. IL4 isin't as bad, especially with FI, but removing the fuel and putting new one in isin't that hard and it would be very frustating that You have worked for hours trying to start the engine and trying everything to find out that Your fuel was 'old'. And a whole year is quite long time... And by the way even new battery can be faulty. When cranking the voltage shouldn't drop too much (check with multimeter) if the battery is OK. You could try with a jumper battery to eliminate the battery and give it a little bit more juice...

PS To remove the fuel it may be easiest with a tube. Don't have to be completely empty, just add enough fresh fuel...

I would also add a fuel stabilizer to prevent (or reduce the possiblity of) this from happening again.

If you didnt put some sort of fuel stabilizer product (ie: "Stabil") in yer gas before you put the bike in storage, indeed the fuell will be that bad. Drain yer gastank and go buy some nice fresh gas and try again.

I would go with new gas. Also we sometimes have to pull the fuel line and prime it. I pull one line and turn the pump on until fuel comes out. Then replace the line as soon as you can.

Hopefully you did not gum up something in the injection system. Fuel starts to go bad in a few weeks and takes a real turn in about 2 to 3 months. In 6 months, you have the makings of Varnish! Even in France, surely people know to use something in their fuel to keep it from going bad!

I had a truck sit for a year and all I had to do was change the battery and tap on the injectors with a wrench to "unlock" them. Started right up.

I really hope this french thing will not start again and it is not the image of what i imagined of Vincent mostly coming from his minority background .

I'm sorry that i wasn't around riding for quite some time i was spending my time spining on Yak9-U-M well over 400 mph.
