FI light is on

well guys, my FI light is on and the bike does run but not real well.

Do I need a special tool to figure out why the FI light is on?
I think I recall seeing something in the manual that went over the variations of blinking light possibilities like 3 short, 3 long.....or 2 short 1 long, etc, etc.

Any tips on figuring out the reason for the FI light?

Yeah there is a spot in the service manual that tells you how to read the error codes given using the FI light.

Make sure you unplug any power commanders as well.

Why the hell would anyone jump to conclusions that this is somehow powercommander related before the failure code is even retrieved? It's a lot of work to disconnect your powercommander just to find out that the vacuum hose to the Intake air pressure sensor has a crack in it (as an example). Find the single wire that comes out of your harness in the tail on the RH side. I think the wire is yellow with a stripe and has a plastic cover over a female bullet connector. There are two methods of grounding that wire to put the ECU into one of two service modes: ground the wire constantly to retrieve CURRENT flash codes from the FI light, or Ground the wire 5X within 2 seconds and then keeping the wire grounded will retreive HISTORY codes. Either way you will need to count the flashes....one long flash and two short flashes is a code 12, 2 long flashes and five short is a code 25. Once you have that info you will need to get to a manual and find out what the diagnosis is for that code. Keep in mind that the code is for that "system" and can be , among other things, wiring, adjustment, vacuum quality, poor ground, poor contact, and is not automatically a component replacement. BA, if you can post what the codes retrieved are, I will give you what help I can to fix this problem.

sounds easy-peasy. I'll check it out and report back, and check it against the manual. Thanks yo! lol!
