I present to you, Backmarker Racing

Okay, so it's just the trailer and everyone has already seen it. Well, kinda. Not with the new graphics that was finished this weekend. Here's a sample.

The top pic is obviously during daylight hours. The bottom is illuminated solely by the flash of my lil' digital camera... standing about 40' away. Engineer grade reflective (same as on cop cars and such) has a tendency to STAND OUT at night. Can't wait for the neighborhood home owners association to start complaining. During the day, it's not too bad. It almost scares you when you drive by at night and your headlights hit it.

Will take some new pics of the insides tonight or tomorrow morning before I come to work. We've made several "additions" like a mini fridge, insulation (up to a 40+ degree difference between inside and out with the A/C), 12v, air tool hose outlets and so on. Here's a pic of the back at night.

What does that trailer weigh?

Empty, the trailer weighs in at around 4,300 to 4,500 (never weighed it empty). With our standard axles, GVWR is 7,000. In other words, recommended payload capacity is just 2,500 lbs. An additional $280 would have taken us to a GVWR of 10,400 and more than doubled our payload. We just didn't think we'd need it. Most of the time we don't. On the other hand, we we loaded just about everything the team owns and put it on a truck scale, the trailer and it's contents was right at 8,000 lbs.

Oh how we wish someone on the team owned a diesel. As a matter of fact I have just about the only vehicle on the team that can even pull it out of my neighboorhood, much less for the 1,000 mile round trip to Texas World Speedway.

The combined weight of the truck and trailer averages 15,000 lbs. Because of the 35x12.5 tires and the 3:73 axle (I never imagined I'd be towing crap like this), the lil' Hemi (company truck) huffs and puffs at around 5 to 6 MPG. When we borrowed an old clapped out Powerstroke, we got about 10 to 12 MPG. No land speed records were set by either one, but it sure would be nice if one of the guys got of their butts and bought a new diesel. At least they could get me a set of OEM sized tires for company truck (265/70-17). THe only problem is that racing, on almost any level, usually leaves everybody broke.

Kinda dead in the water, for now. It's still sitting in the same milk crate since I took it out of the endurance bike. It's been "regulated" to being one of those "off season projects".

Pull "this", XL. Shouldn't you be off boxing up front wheels or something like that?

Nice job on the graphics Sherman

I did my van in reflective a few years ago, it looked great but getting it off when I wanted to change the design was a bitch! Now I put down ordinary vinyl first before I use reflective.

WOW! Great to hear from on this side of da pond, Lorcan! Thank you. Coming from you, that's the biggest compliment I have gotten on it (not slighting everyone else here).

I know what your talkin' about. That's why I ask the team to go with a more "timeless" design instead of what I call hugh "splash" graphics. The paint job on the trailer's alum. panels is so cheap, odds are if I try to take it off (even with a heat gun), it'll pop the paint.

I was working on getting off the OEM shitty 1 mil mylar decals off and one of them was harder then getting reflective off after 3 years. Heat, "orange peel" and just about everything else I tried had no effect on the decal (except removing the print). Just a splash of lacquer thinner on a shop towel and the black paint got as soft and tacky as fresh sprayed Krylon. That's okay though, I'll just cover the 4" x 10" booger with another decal and be done with it.

Of coure, on the other hand, I ALWAYS use vinyl under the reflective when it comes to the company's truck.

So, pdb1964, if papawheelie doesn't send the cash, when will ya bring the truck down for us to "borrow" for next season? Will only need it from Feb. to Oct.

It might be a tad cramped for all of us to fit in that older style 2500, but we might make due. It does have an 8' bed on it, right? Don't forget to put a shell on back before bringing it down. Wouldn't want the stuff we carry in back of my 2500 blowin' out, ya know?

hhmmmm, Feb to Oct, ay. Maybe I could take the summer off and be your driver. What whould that pay be like?

Problem is, even though I have a canopy, it is a short box, and with me as the driver, I would only be adding to the cramped situation.

I guess your only hope is for papawheelie to send the cash and then you can get a 2005 3500 Ram with the newer, stronger quiter diesel.
