billet block

I just ordered a billet big bore kit and want to know any tricks on cleaning them before installation. Is putting it in the dishwasher good enough?I'm just looking to ensure all machining debris is out.Any other prep suggested?I won't be doing the installation.

A dishwasher will work fine....as long as you won't get in shit from your wife/girlfriend. After taking it out of the dishwasher, I would take a penlight and check for any chips still attached to the water jackets, etc. The person doing the work will have to do a final clean on it anyways...I would never trust that anyone else had cleaned it to my standards (no offence, but one fingerprint, in some circumstances, can be the difference between gasket/seal failure or successful work).

sorry I've ordered a SBM 1320.I didn't see any bad raps in the search.I didn't know if there are any oil passageways that needed to be checked.I'm also getting a ti-force pipe, muzzy co2 shifter and a shift light.I think I'm going to need to go back to the 17/46 sprokets instead of the17/48.

Welcome to Dragracers Anonymous.

I hate to tell you this, but if I had a choice whether to buy an equivalent product from Muzzys or SBM, I'd pick Muzzys every time. Quality and service are incomparable. Cancel your order if you still can.

I also have the SBM 1320 with "NO" quality issues!!! I have also bought busa 1464 blocks with "NO" quality issues. However, I have had 'NUMBEROUS" problems with muzzy's service and their parts. So Alive, I feel you made the best choice.

JC, with as many issues you have had with a certain 1317, I really don't understand your strong position toward Muzzy's?!?!

SBM is not offset, and the walls are not as thin as one would think. My experience with his products is fine, and I always get okay customer service, but I am a dealer too, so maybe that is different for them.

JC, i didn't understand what you had/have problems with?

The head gasket leaking I beleive is what he is talking about. Can you O ring the Muzzy block? I know you can't do the SBM block.

So far, only Johnnycheese has said their personal experience against SBM.I'm greatful for all the insight and knowledge this site holds with it's members, however, first hand experience holds more weight in my book.I've seen some post saying SBM has spotty service.I called and asked a question today and they said they'ld have to get back to me.Ten minutes later, they called. The dealership also said they liked SBM over muzzy,so I went on blind faith.JC,what do you mean by check what you are in the hole?Mic.inside diameter and check for uniformity?

I also have a 1320 SBM block. The pistons are a little bigger than the 1317 Muzzy but I do wish I could O ring the block to spray alot of NOS. SBM said it should hold 150-200 shoot. But the space between the cyclinders are kinda small can you O ring the Muzzy block?

My experience is with one of SBM's steel-sleeved blocks, which wouldn't hold water after I started spraying it. I tried everything, and eventually sold it to someone with no plans to spray. The run-around I got from Mike, and the stories I heard from others in my attempts to get the block sealed, convinced me never to invest in his parts again. One person put it best; trust the folks who still race.

deck height I have seen their block come with the piston at the top of the cylinder.

A friend of mine had his ZX-9 swigarm lengthened by SBM. When he got it back the spacers that fit into the swingarm that the axle slide through would not fit. When he contacted SBM he was basically told he was on his own to make them fit. Quality assurance and customer satisfactin from SBM seems to be selective. Fuck him and his products.

Bossman, the 1320 that I purchased was O-ringed. I am not sure if this is a process that can be done afterward or not, but it was an option when i bought mine.

JC, was the deck height the issue or the piston choice?

I must admitt that Mike or Alex can have their days, but I have never been talked to or talked at like I have by the guys at Muzzy's.....Kurt or ? have just been plain insulting and not willing to answer questions or support their product. I had purchaced a 1270 kit that did not include the map. When i called for the map, they treated me on several calls like I was trying to be "slick" and steal their map! Disscusting!!! Wanting me to send "original reciepts" "shipping invoice" etc,,,,,I finally had to make it a point here and post on Doug to get one emailed to me. That is what customer "no service". (That is just one story that I have personally with them).

they supplied the piston and block. the thing they did not tell the customer was that they had the block shaved and then O-ringed and never checked the piston deck height . customer beleive what SBM said and put his motor together........well 10 minutes on the dyno with 17.25:1 compression and pump gas....... take a guessl>>>>>> this is why if you don't know don't build
