quote: I can honestly say that I've seen a lot worse. Try taking the battery out of a Vmax......no fun at all. I am an automotive technician by trade and I find this bike a joy to work on compared to the shite I have to work with on a daily basis.
I was impressed that the battery slid out on that tray. It wasn't that big of deal to disconnect the electrical (for me anyways), and then the whole thing slid right out. I thought it was a nice feature.
Yeah, I had a Vmax for 12 years and it really ate batteries. I think I went through 5 of them. A friend of mine with a 96 Vmax would call me up whenever he needed a new battery and get me to replace it for him. Like most repairs on bikes it gets easier every time you do it.

Had a 12 and am riding a 14, both sucked when you have to get to the battery. My thought is this, the belly wing is held on with a beefy set of bolts, why not install a battery box down there? It is low and toward the rear of the bike. We used to put them in the swingarm on the KZ's. When I say we I really mean most of the swingarm builders.

Shit this thing is easy in comparison, my bmw's bat is dead center under the gas tank. There's no checkin that no way no how without a major plastic fest & tank removal, gel cells rule.

Battery Tender or Battery Maintainer pigtails. Install once,Never look at the battery again until it needs replacing. Conect positive pigtail to positive battery terminal. Connect negative pigtail to negative battery wire bolt in frame outside of battery compartment (works the same as connecting to negative terminal on battery). You will have enough pigtail wire to pull out of battery cover and hook up for a charge. When done, just pop it back in.

Works for me If you tuck the pigtail end under the edge of the fairing like I bet Rook has done, you just pull it out to charge...tuck it back in to ride lol But to be honest.....I have no complaints about the 14's battery access anyways. You want a frustrating experience........try changing the oil/filter on a busa Oil changes are so easy on the 14 I can forgive everything else I've never had ANY vehicle that was easier to do the most common maintainence on (oil changes). ALOT of other makers could learn from kawi there

^^^^Corollas have the filter exactly opposite. On bottom, pointing straight down and up in a hole. You can't see it with the car on the ground and you can only remove it with a filter socket. Installation is by touch.
