What filter do you suggest?

I've been running stock filters with the screen cut out since I got the bike in 2000. It's time for a new filter. What do ya'll suggest? Lucky

Pantyhose

Stretch a couple pair of pantyhose over your Ramair Intake Mark. All the filtration you need.

hey lucky12...i could be somewhat wrong on this, but i wouldnt recommend upgrading your filters on your 12. when i first got my 12, i asked the same thing, and it turned out that upgrading for isntance to a k&n filter would actually hinder my bike slightly less then the stock filter setup. mine is a 2002 model 12, so i dont know if the difference matters. the notion is that the stock filters are actually better then any aftermarket upgrade. just my two cents, anyone feel free to correct me on this if i am wrong though.

hope that helps.

so does the bmc help with performance with the 12? i was under the impression that the stock filters were the best when trying to gain performance.

Both the BMC and the K&N will out flow the stock filters. And they're much easier to clean.

+ 1 hp. Did extensive testing on this, fuel, pipe, PC3R, Muzzy map, stock a while ago. Look back around July-ish search.

K&N???

What, if any, is the average gain with the K&N. Back in 1954 when I bought the ones in Lil' Red they were supposed to be decent filters. The only bad thing I remember reading was that they were kind of a pain to install/remove. True in a way, but not a "Dial 911 Situation".

K&N design sucks major ass!! If you plan on removing them for cleaning they are a real bear! They get 'heat-stuck' into place and they offer no good way for removal. (other than jamming a long screw-driver down the side to loosen and pry on them)

Totally BMC. Or whip out your pantyhose as your buddy mentioned.........or maybe it was his pantyhose? Somebody's wearing some panty hose around there.

i use the K&N filters, they werent too bad to put in, no worse then putting them in my 6RR.....but I am kind of partial, i run K&N in every thing I own...both trucks and all 3 bikes...only way to go if ya ask me....but I have heard nothing bad about the BMC race filters either, either way ya can go wrong....

Hey, ya'll! Lucky is feeling the pressure of the R6 comin' down for the next DG rally! He's gotta squeeze more power from that beast of his!

*giggle* *Snort*

Hey man, sounds like BMC all the way.

I do have to say, though, that my only experience with K&N filters was with my Tacoma truck. Although I could tell it did some difference, after traveling on a dirt road I could see dirt on the INSIDE of the filter in the box past the filter. Kinda turned me off from buying another one for the trucks. Maybe it wasn't oiled enough - I just opened the plastic and put it in.

Anyway. Good luck my friend.

tested my bike with stock filters and then K&N's and lost hp with the K&N's. This year the bike will be at the strip only so its out with the pantyhose.
