quote: i have been waiting to punch my cat. currently just running yosh trc pipes. i am concerned about the bike needing a remap with the collector cat punched, and have not seen evidence that the stock mapping is ok with all the cats removed. would really like to know, and if stock map is not sufficient - what map out their will work?
Running muzzys slip on map with the cat removed and its perfect. Even the stock map worked great before the PClll.

Now Jack, dont be like that, there is a difference between paying someone to do it for me and admitting I dont have the patience to spend potentially 2+ hours drilling the cat out. Mind you this doesnt mean I am not going to remove the old and install the new exhaust myself. The only time my rides (car or bike) see someone else is when I need tires mounted.
Cheers

I would have went with the stock exhaust with just taking that Cat out if I wouldn't have found this very good deal on my full system. But to each is own there are a lot of good points in this topic.

I think the dual looks is stupid, plus I got my system used for $400. Just be patient, and you can get deals on just about anything. Plus, I've never heard a single bike that sounds better than my 14! I have never ridden a bike that had slip-ons, but I can tell you that my bike is much faster now, and dynos indicate 10 hp over slipons. That is a huge gain on a bike!

I like the dual look (slipons) if not for the popping on decel I would go ahead and get some. I don't want to buy a PC and go through all that.

Ok, I heard the "a couple hour job, drill, cuss, drill, cuss, etc" so I decided to go ahead and do this. The Texas summer is looming and I"m hoping removing the Cat will facilitate cooler under-engine temps. I asked for tips and really didn't get much so I thought I'd post my experience.
I bought a loooooooooooong drill bit, got a hammer, an old loooooooooooooong Phillips screwdriver, bought a magnetic antenna thingy to remove pieces of metal, a flashlight, and on old wirebrush on a looooooooong metal rod used for the steering tube on an old Mercury boat motor steering tube, and a shop vac.
So it begins. Drill with the new bit with the Firestorm cordless drill......SNAP. There goes the new drill bit. I convinced myself it was defective and went back to Lowes to get a newer, BIGGER one! Drill, Hammer, pry, drill, hammer, pry, etc. After doing that for a while I notice that the wadded up tin foil crap is starting to unravel an I'm able to pry it out one of the exhast ports. It is now that I understand that this thing resembles Dante's Inferno in that there are multiple layers, two to be exact. So the pics you've seen show the first layer. The second is a couple of inches further back. This is the point at which I start thinking a new exhaust system isn't looking that expensive and I may not have a choice because I have wadded up metal inside the the collector. Take a break watch the CAVS choke and back at it again. Drill, hammer, drill, SNAP.... there goes the second drill bit. But there's a little bit left to scar up what's left of the second layer of the CAT. Once again it starts to disentegrate and I'm able to pry MOST of it out. Now the concern that makes you feel a little sick to your stomach. The second layer of the CAT is back up against the plenum where the header comes into the collector. You guessed it. While I pryed most of the metal out, some of it came out with the magnetic antenna thingy, and even less came out with the shop vac....some of it fell back into the header tubes. I was thinking the same thing you are, hmmmm....I wonder if I started it up if it would blow that stuff out. Note to self - make sure the wife is not twenty feet behind the bike in the garage. It was a tad like a grenade going off... I think!? It was violent but it cleared everything out.
Ok, enough narrative. This is a difficult, tedious task. It is not for the faint of heart because one could get into it and then want to stop. Can't do that, no turning back. It can be done but patience is definitely required and a beer or two doesn't hurt either. If you like to work on mechanical tasks with precesion, ie. read, research, know what to expect, execute, finish.... this is probably not for you.
I'll post up my thoughts about the heat issue after I ride it back and forth to work a few times.
