What a let down.

Aluminum frame
Aluminum sub-frame
Aluminum swingarm
Aluminum triples
Smaller engine(physical dimensions)
Titanium mufflers
Magnesium clutch cover
Magnesium AC magneto cover
Magnesium drive shaft cover
Polyethylene 3.9 liter gas tank
"Lightweight" bodywork

And it's 683 pounds? What the hell? I hope it has a reverse gear in the tranny.

$18,000?!?!

Limited to 220km/h?!? Isn't that 135 MPH?

5-speed tranny(no reverse)?

I was excited for a minute, but not anymore. They shoulda spent the last 20 years working towards an 1800cc-2000cc motor and getting it closer to 600 pounds. For under $13,000.

Fuck this thing. I think the closest we have to an affordable Muscle Bike would be the B-King, and even it's a stretch at $13,000.

Smokin, do you think this bike will be a Monster in the 1/8 mile or will the 14 still beat it, also, do you think there will be an after market for this bike and it will be easy to pick up 20-30 horsepower?

I really can hardly believe the 220 km/h limit...

Don't tell me that at 700 lbs, 67 inches long, and 31 degrees of rake, that it is not stable/safe above 135. Hell the old Vmax could run near 150.

I think it looks the best out of all of the cruisers. The V-Max is a legendary name in the industry but wow $18,000!!!!

9 years of hype, and less motorcycle ,higher msrp ,less fuel, more weight, same old vmax not good for much but bar hopping.... no thanks yammie ha ha ha

LESS motorcycle?????????....................this thing weighs 680 pounds, how is that less motorcycle...........seems like a whole lotta motorcycle to me LOL!

I do agree with you though that at 680 pounds and under 200 horsepower with shaft this will be more of a bar hopper/stop light to stop light burner than a 1/4 mile animal..............but i still like the look alot...........but not for 18000 grand.

My 86 Max is the only bike i have ever owned which i never got to the top end.

I LOVED that bike, but at about 130 it started twitching, EVIL!

I had it set up right and wasn't short on courage it get scared the shit outa me as it started twitching.

Still, I REALLY LOVED that bike, and if i had 18k to burn...

I like it. Seems its not only the best performing cruiser, but may be tough even in the naked sportbike class

To run with a stock zx14 in the it would need to run 6.20s to 6.40s .....Yes it's possible with a good lite weight rider to match a STOCK zx14 in the 1/8 mile ... But who owns a stock zx14 ? You will be able to get a pipe and p/c but pick up 20 to 30 HP NO way !!! This bike is for 40s to 50s year old guys ( like Me ) that had a Vmax years ago and want to relive the HOT ROD Vmax days .. As a drag bike it will not be able to match the zx14 or busa ....The new Vmax is what it is , A big bruiser , hot rod , muscle bike that will do block long smokey burn outs and make cool sounds while doing it ... I think it will be a fun bike on the street and not so fun on the track ...

Perfectly stated Smokin.

It is what it is.

That being said, I'd like one but not for 18K. It is a yamaha. Iwould consider 12K if it had a huge line of accessories on go fast parts from Yamaha.

Yep, perty cool! Should give the big cruiser and VTX crowd a good run for the money. I realy do not think it is or ever was intended to be a drag bike, especially with shaft drive. Can't wait to see one on the dyno de-restricted, piped, and mapped. Plus if you just bump that compression a little that thing would really get up and go! Watch out Busa and ZX-14 guys, oh yeah and you old ZX-12 fellas as well.

I still want one of the old ones.............

If you have not ever met MR MAX, and twisted the throttle, and felt that kind of rush out of a "cruiser" chassis, it is too cool.

shane661, I confirmed with Yamaha's media dept that the US model has the same 220kph speed restriction as the euro model, but it is not supposed to interfere with a 1/4 mile run. I don't know what the details are on how that is implemented tho.

As usual, your RIGHT ON with your posts Smokin.............a big bruiser/muscle bike that does block long smokey burnouts is EXACTLY what the VMAX is supposed to be, I'm 38, soon to be 39, and i loved the VMAX, my couisin had one and a friend had one and i used to trade sometimes for as long as week or two at a time with them back in the late 80's-early 90's, that VMAX had so much torque for its day it would burnout for ever and launch so hard and easy compared to a short wheelbase sportbike..........same with the Eliminator 900 i used to launch that pig at 9000 RPM's with the front tire like 6-8 inches off the ground.

Come on..........that thing will break into the nines for sure with a decent rider.................lets not be riddiculous, the old VMAX would just about run those times and thats with 60 less horsepower, way less torque, a much shorter wheelbases and a skinny 150 rear tire i believe..

That bike (nor Dale Walkers bike) were really stock...like showroom stock......he told me that himself.

11.30's(corrected) is about it........for really stock and a decent rider w/ some practice.
