Zx 6r loose tank = eventual leak
Noticed a thread on here that mentions a wiggle in the tank. As the wiggle was not specifically pointing out the issue I thought I'd start a new thread. The 2007 ZX 6r starts with a slight movement in the tank. With use (knees on the tank when you lean) this becomes worse and the wiggle becomes more pronounced. After 3000 k on the track mine started to leak like crazy and it now needs to be replaced. The leak for me occured at the mounting bracket at the front of the tank. This seems to me to be a design issue - espcially as others are noting a wiggle in their tank. The bracket is not strong enough to handle the wiggle that is allowed by the rubber mount at the back. Kawi will probably end up doing a recall and replacing all of these tanks.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....seeee....If I recall....quite a few peeps on the other thread claiming this "wiggle" was normal. I already noted that I bought this up with 2 different dealerships claiming I had that prob and both told me to get the bike in ASAP! No tank on any bike in the world is supposed to wiggle! Bring it in and make them fix it at no cost to you! I dunno about over there but we've got the strictest "lemon" laws over here in NY!

OK.
So the gas tank has two rubber bumper held on with glue on the underside of the tank.
When I lifted up my tank - the bumpers were gone and all I was left with were two glue smudge marks.
Fish_Antlers ordered the missing parts for the tank and I should be getting them soon (I hope).
Fish_Antlers has the part number - for anyone else who lifts up their tank and finds that they are missing pieces.
It should be interesting to hear how the dealer is going to keep these glued on bumpers from coming off again and again...
If you do feel a WIGGLE in your tank - check out the underside - or have your dealer do it.
If your tank is missing the glued bumpers then get it fixed before you have a critical failure like on Lexx's bike.

Well - got a new tank and new little rubber boots. I'll be very surprised if they (the rubber boots that is) stay in place. I would guess they've been gone for most of the summer. Anyway, onward with the other mods.

my Honda 600 has those rubber things under the tank, but they don't fall out.
BUT, when I forget to replace them the tank makes a hell of a noise on bumps, and on rough tracks like Daytona its unbearable!

I noticed a wiggle while getting gas. I'm scheduled to take mine to the shop and have it looked at.
