2007 ZX6R, wiggle it - just a little bit...

Does your tank wiggle?
I think my tank wiggle has gotten worse since I road 2200 miles around the coast.

I went up to the 6 at the Kawasaki tent at Laguna - it wiggled a bit.

Does anyone elses tank wiggle - can anything bad happen if it wiggles too much?
Is a bit of wiggle good?

I can't remember any of my other Kawasaki 600s wiggling.

I didn't have any wiggle, at least none that I was aware of until Fish grabbed hold of it at Cannery Row and about tore it off my bike trying to show us how it would wiggle. I haven't touched it since.... probably would fall off!

I am going to take my bike apart and look for the boots that are supposed to be under the tank - maybe they moved..
????
The zx6r at the Kawasaki booth at laguna wiggled too....

I am just trying to figure out if it is the new standard on all 2007 zx6r and they all wiggle or if something is up with mine.

What's the worse that can happen with a wiggly tank?

depends how bad it is. It could crack if it's too bad.. Get some stick on foam rubber and tighten the thing up.

Yeah I will look into that foam tape,
If it isn't going to make anything bad happen, then I may just leave it.
I just wouldn't want anything to wiggle enough to start leaking all over my tires.

The "wiggle" is only gonna get worse...there should be absolutely no play whatsoever in the tank! Something's not right! Personally, I would take it off and put it back on slowly making sure everything is on right....that would drive me freakin' nuts....I'm funny that way.

Honestly haven't heard of this "wiggle" problem over in my neck-o-the woods!

I was in my local show room and their 2007 ZX6Rs have wiggly tanks too.

Mine does seem to wiggle more.
Maybe this problem will get worse the more miles you have on the bike?

I haven't taken it a part yet.
Maybe something wasn't put together quite right from the factory.
I am not too sure what I would be looking for once I took the tank off!

It is so weird because my 04 or 00 kawasaki 600s never had any wiggle in the tank.

Hmmm....

I rekon it has to wiggle some, if it doesn't, it might fatigue the mounts and crack somewhere.

I've never heard of it being a problem... so...... I'm not that much worried about it. However, that's just how I roll.

I'm sure now someone here will dig up something they deem relevant to counter my opinion, and I suppose if you dig deep and long enough you can always find something wrong with everything. What a strange way to live...

PK if your tank is seriously and dangerously loose, I think you shouldn't ride and have your bike checked out "properly" at your stealership or local shop.

Lucky Lo - I trust my friends and the people on this site more than my dealer.

It is not about "finding something wrong" it is about there being something wrong and finding it.
We are not talking about a blender or nail polish.
We are talking about a motorcycle.

You know when things go wrong on a motorcycle, like a leak in the radiator hose squirting coolant onto the front tire, things can go REALLY wrong.

The key is to catch things before they go REALLY wrong.

If these are new tolerances that kawasaki is working with - where a little wiggle is OK. I would like them to tell me that.

I have never had a tank wiggle before.
And although you think Fish_Antlers was forceful with your bike - if he had used the same force on my 2004 636 Kawasaki - the tank would not have budged a fraction of an inch.

So what gives?

I called my local dealership an made believe the wiggle was my prob, they told me to bring it in so they could check it out....THERE IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE A "WIGGLE"!!!!!

Not to offend Mistress... but if I thought my "blender" was dangerous I would not ride that either, not 'till it was checked and /or repaired. I have been told there is nothing wrong with mine. I have not heard of any complaints (other than here) and perhaps if older models felt more solid, it's an evolution thing.
There was some mention above, and I quote "it has to wiggle some, if it doesn't, it might fatigue the mounts and crack somewhere." Perhaps this is a next step. I don't design "em I just ride 'em.

good thing you don't work at Consumer Reports.

FYI... kbryant was the one who initially pointed out that gas tank seemed loose... you'll have to get angry at him instead

You're silly..... I'm not angry at anyone.
I love you guy's and I hope PK's bike is okay. I really don't think she should ride it if you think it's faulty and dangerous.

I am supposed to look for missing feet.
So when I have a second set of hands I will take my tank off and see if there are feet under there than have moved and are no longer in there proper spot.

I would do it on my own - but I don't want to risk scratching my baby.

Soooo Sorry about your bike Lucky Lo!

My tank wiggled and it got worse and then finally the tank started to leak at the mounts. Me thinks they have a design issue.
