Break in Period

I read this article about break in for bikes, snowmobiles, etc. It is an interesting read and a controversial topic but another perspective on breaking in your new bike. I just picked up my new 6r and followed this procedure and will be doing a track day with it this weekend.

Ya..that thing's been kicking around the net for years... most people think it's BS, but after trying to ride the 6R at 4K rpm, I'm starting to wonder if the peeps who write the manuals need to have a "talking to"

4K on a 6RR engine? WTF, it even stayed cranked at that low of RPM?????

Geez thats not even safe to be on the road with that RPM limitation on an engine designed to perform from 7-8K and up?

On my 600 track bike I have tape covering from 8K and down so if i don't see the tach needle I know I'm running the engine to dayum slow

Welll??? Who's right?? The manual or mototune.usa??? C'mon already....Am I gonna screw up the engine with a hard break-in or with an easy break-in?? 4000 RPM's is re-fuckin-diculous! The cagers are even getting pissed at me on the highways! I just don't wanna fuck this up cause it's gonna be the last bike I get for a very, very long time!

I know I've always gone with "by the book" but I'm with you on this one... 4K ??? You're just lugging the poor little engine around .

It just ain't right. Can't be.

Book appears to contain a generic Kawi break in procedure not specific to this bike IMHO.

yeah, i agree with you. I didn't give my 10 much of a break-in and its been flawless. Ag I suppose this is a very highly discussed topic so I'll say no more

I just called my dealer and they say that Kawasaki says 4,000 for ALL the bikes.
From the little 600 to the huge zx14.
How can that be right?
I don't know if they are covering their asses or they just don't bother to take the time to look at each bike and design a break in for each model.
???
My dealer said 6,000 is good with some shifts up to 8,000.
He said that people who do break in by the book come in for their first service and when they do take the bike up to speed they get big puffs of black smoke because of blow by, the rings haven't seated themselves properly.

Hmmmm.....

What I posted before...I did 6-8k till 1st oil change at 100miles and then went all over the rev range until 500miles oil change and then blasted away. Break-in is GAY! :P

Well I think the main thing with break-in is supposed to be that the bike isn't ridden full throttle. And shouldn't matter quite where the revs are.

But yeah, I agree with what NinjaNick said... The Oil changes can only be good for the bike.
