Does anyone make different rear gearsets?

I was just thinking (for once) that it might be nice to have a different rear gear ratio, a lower one. Most people do not need the speed potential of OD, in fact 5th and OD provide the same results in testing. I do admit that the OD rpm's are sweet on the highway, but lower ones would be great for almost al of us.

If anyone has any info, please lemme know..

Rob

I'd been wondering the same thing myself, but I seriously doubt it. Turbo charging seems like the only reasonable way to go, but then, so does your warranty with it...LOL

I think it can be done, just nobody has mentioned it... Turbo would be a pain in the arse to plumb in this thing, there just is no room....

Hey FBA, did you ever get the flies out on your c-14, with the full area-p,, that I egged them on to build, only to not hae enough money to buy yet. I feel bad about that part.. Just wandering..

Yup - all done. It's a beast...flies like a bat outta hell for the big pig it is. Sounds great, tons of TQ all over the place, wheelies at only 3k in 1st. She bangs through the gears at an astounding rate!

I get about 42 MPG - which is enough for me and is much more than my ZX in any case. Given that I weigh 220...and ride it at high RPM's most of the time, I think it's a great compromise, considering how much usable power it makes.

I like the fact that I can pass in any gear with ease, but on serious downshift to the lower gears, it hauls like a Banshee banging through the gears. It would however be nice if it came with a 6.6 gallon tank - like the FJR.

Steve/Rob - flies out and full exhaust, it's a different animal. You kinda get the best of both worlds.

I for one, need to stop at least once every 2 hours in any case, so if the fills /stops are a bit more frequent, it's nor an issue for me.

I only get about 38, but It lives most of it's life on very twisty roads and I have it pinned and banging into the rev limiter. That is why I like going downhill, I can muster more speed. Thanks Kawasaki for that slipper clutch.

I would actually like it geared taller. If I did, then I would take out the flies to compensate.
What would even be better for me is another 1000 rpm at the top.

Ok Ted, I think I need to comment on this. I do not think you can ge more speed in OD compared to 5th, and even 5th can do 170+, the question is how fast does anyone really need to go.

Pegging the rev limiter with a stock exhaust is a loss of power, area-p proved the stock ex. gives up the ghost at 7500, there is only loss after that. Your answer to nirvana is the full area-p and flies out, you want that extra 1000 rpm's it's here.

Yeah I got the flies out pc3 and 2 bros carbon can, but I can hinestly tell you it was an instantanious transformation, unlike I have ever exeriemced in any of my 30 bikes I owned.

Just a refresher, I had a 2000 busa, this bike feels stronger now, and brakes are awesome, I feel I got 1000 hp in brakes, no joke.

Flies out gives you the torque low to midrange to do insane things. I just had her out this past sun. and on my way back I decided to give her sme juice. 2/3 throtle sent the front tire in the air, once she came back down I banged 2nd and the same thing happened, fronttire shooting skywards. Mind you I am not using over 6k, and am gone, seriously flyin'

Maybe a I got a strong bike, and had my share if weak ones, this thing actually scares me, wot might put me back in the hospital. I do not need or want more.

The biggest bonus of flies out is the instantanious throttle response, and the torque to back it up. Before and after is night and day, you do not even think 2x if there is a diffeerrence, it is immediate, and with great authrity. I just do not like to have to wind out a 1400, when there is so much torque on tap, effortless, see 'ya later kinda power.

So, bite the bullet, and experience the way it should have been made..... It can get down right scary...

Reguards,
Rob

I am not worried about top end.
I need more range in the gears, especially at 100 plus. I ride twisty roads, tight twisty roads. I keep the revs up for better engine braking and control usually above 7k. So if the road is really tight I may be in second and find myself shifting into 3rd where another 1000 rpms would get me to where I need to be. If the road is not really tight I find myself pinned in third and having to shift into 4th. I don't run around at lower RPMs so the flies really don't make that much sense.

Ok then, you need taler gearing, I want lower gearing, maybe someone who reads this stuff will find an answer and give us choices. Lower for me, hooligan style, taller for you to keep from shifting a lot. Have any ideas who would want to tackle this?

I don't mind shifting at all, I actually really like it, it is just that it slows you down if you don't get to use the meat of the RPM range. It just seems that the way the roads around here are, you end up either hanging up against the rev limiter for a second or shifting and not getting anything out of it.

I am in total agreement with you, do not have a full ex, but the slip on flies out pc3 does magical wonders. I really can't ask for more in the power dept. This thing is wicked. 2nd gear power wheelies! Thank god and kawi for putting kick ass brakes on it, you really need 'em!

Reguards,
Rob

Ps: Ted if you ever are up in pa, take her for a spin, you would swear they added another cylinder to it, and the throttle response at any given rpm is astounding, kinda like a supercharger effect....

I don't doubt a word you have been saying. BUT I believe that you MUST have a PC to make it right. And I just can't bring myself to trust a PC. One left me stranded 100 miles from home and their service was so bad I had to go to their door to get a repaired one. Assholes.
