Changing steerling lock cylinders

This is a follow up to my last post. For those who didn't read it. I bought a wrecked '08 Connie and had to replace the steering lock and ECU. I didn't receive the mechanical key for it and the shop cannot power on the bike to reprogram it.

Has anyone had any experience in swapping the key cylinders? Is it possible without ruining the electronics or anything?

One would think that the cyl would come out. Usually there is a pin at the very bottom that needs to be pushed out of the way to release the cyl.
