Review - AreaP/BMC/PCV

I got my AreaP full system (with the PCV mapped by Fuelmotousa and the BMC air filter) installed today. No doubt about it - it pulls substantially harder from 3K all the way up, but the really fat gains start at around 5K...where it just screams. The engine mapping must have been dramatically leaned out, because the bike definitely runs hotter, which you can feel and also see on the temp gauge. I was always running at 1 bar below center on the highway, whereas now, I'm running at the center. That's not a big issue, considering the big power gains I got. The gains are such that it would be worth something like 3/4 of a gear down in any gear...and it pulls much harder in OD at 75, then it did before the install. 1/2/3/4/5 pull like a bat outta hell when in the power band. The bike now lifts in 1st and 2nd under a WOT chop without bouncing the throttle. I had already removed my flies when the bike was first delivered 2 months ago.

I'd definitely recommend this setup to anyone looking for more power. You won't be disappointed, as it's probably the cheapest increase in RWHP/TQ you're going to get. Does it produce 30+ more HP? No, not that I can feel...the 30+ RWHP increase they claim (if that) is only right at the soft limiter where any stock pipe falls drastically, but you probably get the 14-18RWHP most people are claiming, not to mention the big weight loss and the aesthetic enhancement.

It took a while to install because of the clearance at the oil pan. You MUST install the 2 button screws to replace the original oil pan screws, as well as the 2 washers which hold the mid pipe...I now know this after fucking around with the setup for a few hours...but all worth it in the end!

AreaP makes a gorgeous pipe...well constructed and very, very clean indeed...in fact, the best built pipe /headers I've seen in all my years. It was worth the wait for the product!

Thanks to Jamie and Kerry! Great job guys!

I also received the same setup last week and have managed to get it installed. The only thing I have left to do is pull the flies. I went with the Carbon Fiber on my Black C14. It's a gorgeous pipe and sounds great, not to loud unless you want it to be. Totally agree with your install notes. I had the damn thing almost 100% on and decided to replace the two screws in the oil pan because the header would touch it. So back off it came. Had the radiator not been there it would be a piece of cake (of course once you figure out the jigsaw puzzle of plastic). The power commander was a piece of cake, air filter not bad either. Now it's those damn flies and I'm set.

Put mine on about a month ago. Same deal: Very, very nice, but a pain to put on. I also had to put the flat-head screws on the bottom of the oil pan. I also had to bend that section of the exhaust a bit. This stuff is, admittedly, not my strong point. It runs, looks, and sounds really nice. I could actually use a good bit more volume myself. But, for this type of ST bike, that's probably a good thing. Well done, indeed.

MNC14 - Wait until you pull the flies - I ran it and went up against an 05 Gixxer1K yesterday in the mountains at high speeds. He didn't pull me and I didn't pull him, but he was an excellent rider on a bike that weighs 200+ lbs less with more HP (but much less TQ) and has the capacity to eat the Connie easy. Now, the Connie was leaned over scraping everything in its path and I never went over 3rd, which was good easy till 120+...but damn that thing pulls so hard now, it's a fucking joke. No ST bike I ever had has ever pulled like this puppy does after the flies/exhaust mod, and I have owned FJR's too. In 2nd at 70, it lifts on its own now...just by chopping the throttle, no clutching. It literally screams though the gears with breathtaking acceleration. I notice now that in OD at 80, you don't really need to downshift to pass...that's how much power it delivers. Could it be faster? Yes, of course, but I'm not into T/C'ing it...

Ya, it was a bitch to install, and we added the washers and changed the screws as I said above (after 3 tries)...took it down 3 fucking times till we got the clearance issue out of the way and in the end, completely forgot to install the BMC...LOL. BTW, don't bother blocking the hose feeding to the airbox, there's no real popping on decel in any case.

This is the best mod for Connie and delivers the cheapest HP you can buy! I have never seen a pipe deliver or uncork so much power before. That motor must have been seriously choked before.

Actually - for sheer brute power and downright acceleration, it would be the ZX, but as an all-around bike, yes, the Connie's the king of the heap...it offers pretty much the best of all wolds.

Ya, they're the only ones that have that complete kit in a pre-mapped package.

I bought 2 complete systems - 1 with stainless and the 2nd with a CF pipe for my buddy. The CF was 11 and change and the stainless was about 50-75 less. All prices include shipping. I don't remember the exact prices, but they were in that range. Well worth what they're asking. Cheapest power gains you can buy for this bike.

Thank you for your response. That is not a bad price at all. Hell the muzzy exhaust alone is like 1500.

Muzzy is a dual and weighs like a fucking pig, more than the stocker. This setup makes the bike lose 21 lbs and, it picks up 15-20 RWHP!

Check the fuelmoto site, but I'm pretty sure the CF full exhaust, PC-V (W/the fuelmoto map.), and BMC filter were $1179 to your door.
