HID's on the Connie
Just installed a set of HID's on the C14 last night. Install was easy and placing the ballasts and ignitors was simple, with lots of room to spare. The 6000k white light of the HID is wild and puts way more light down to the ground than the stock halogens. I only had to raise the adjusters to get the beams up. The lights include halogen bulbs which sit on the side of the HID bulbs, but compared to the HID lows, are useless.
There's a huge difference over stock and now much less heat coming off the headlight lenses. I just need to find a set of white super bright LED's to replace the center lights and get everything nice and white now.

It, like most others is some Chinese no-name brand as I get them wholesale from distributors I do business with. The ballasts (2.5" X 2.5" X 1/4") and ignitors are very small and very thin, so they are simple in terms of placement. The actual HID bulbs are generally the same from one brand to another and don't change much from brand to brand.
I paid $115.00 CDN...and you should be able to get HID's online for around $125-150 USD + shipping from most online vendors. They are available as motorized units that "click" up and down for high and low beam, or as a dual bulb, one for high and another (halogen) for low, which would give you less trouble in the long term, as the solenoid (motor) operated versions tend to break after a while. You could also just buy the single version that have low beams only, which is probably enough, as the halogen high beams pale and don't throw much light when compared to the HID low beams. Either way, the low beams when properly aimed, will be enough for all your lighting needs. I just bought these because it was what they had in stock and have been the least trouble free over the term.
The install is plug and play using the stock connectors. All I did was tie wrap the wires in place to clean it up. No cutting or splicing is required for install.

I think I want a set myself. When I get ready, I know who to ask before I buy.
If the Halogens are not all that good it sounds like the solenoid types should make the high beams more usable. Hmmmm.

True, but not reliable at all from my experience, and more $$ for more problems. In fact, you don't ever need to use the high beams with the HID's in any case, so it's really a moot point anyway.

Just make sure you get the thin ballasts, that way you can just velcro them to the top of the inner upper fender. That makes for a simple install, and you'll also have to tie wrap the ignition harnesses to the forks so they don't hit the bulbs, which stick way out of the rubber boot. You'll see what I mean when you install them. If you do it right, you'll be waterpoof at the bulb cover boot.

...what kind of heat (if any) do the HIDs put out?...I'll assume glass lenses are good to go, but will the plastic lenses of bikes with equiped with plastic lenses survive extended use?

Much less than the Halogen's did. I changed the left side 1st and ran HID's on the left and Halo's on the right...they run at about 30-40% less heat than Halo's. They also require 20 watts less per side as well. They're a great add-on for any bike! The plastic lenses should last longer with HID's than with the stockers IMO...

I just installed them and the difference is STAGGERING. This is a must for the C14! It was a cake install. My bulbs' harness did not really stick out. Have a lot of clearance.

Is the bulb sealed in, or do you have space in the boot where water can get in?
