So - the latest status -- the bike IS being replaced and I'll have the new one this week, thanks to my dealer who worked quite diligently with Kawasaki to make it happen! I'll post up pics of the new ride early this week! I've bought many many (Kawasaki) bikes and walked in with many friends who bought them from this dealer on my giudance, in the past 4 years. Everyone recognized this and did the right thing in the end. All's well that ends well! Kudo's to my dealer and Kawasaki!

Getting it tomorrow aft and by the way, it wasn't Kawasaki who addressed the issue; it was the dealer, who's a good friend. Kaw did little to nothing help. I'm glad my dealer is who he is. I'll never go elsewhere... Anyway, I was there today and she's just glorious in all her black beauty! BTW, I saw the old motor from the last bike -

That thing runs really rich from factory. It had exactly 40 KM's on it and the pistons were full of black carbon on the top.

Hopefully, this one will be puurrrrrfect!

So that's like 3 Connies for me in 18 months - LOL

Ya, it seems as if the shims were not properly placed and one of the exhaust valves bent, hitting the piston, breaking a piece of the piston off...but I know that there's still an issue with the CC tensioner, that they didn't hear, yet. Anyway, it's getting a rebuild and I'm sure they'll figure out the rest of the issues. Meantime, my new bike get's picked up today.

That is just plain weird, especially with a shim under bucket. The valve must have been wide open. I am 99% sure they run them on the dyno after they come off the line. How do you miss that?

My thoughts exactly - and btw, it actually happened at only 1000' away from the dealer, as I discovered today.

I got the new one this morning - and this is the quickest, hardest pulling one yet...smoother than the last two as well, but, it seems to like 4th gear so much, it wants to stay there when in 4th.

Had the issue a few times where it would not click up or down while in 4th, despite the fact that it reached the end of the shifter link travel. It only happened in the 1st 9 miles and then nothing in the next 40-50 till now. Probably was a burr or something stupid like that. Might also be that the clutch isn't fully disengaging for some reason. Barring that, this one's the best yet! Pulled on my buddy who has my old 08. 1st and 2nd gear from a roll on a few times and I was able to pull him by a bike length or so till 80...at least 4 times. He weighs a good 50 lbs less than me as well. I am guessing the tranny issue will disappear, or already has. I'm in love with this beast! It's simply a better bike than the FJR for me, but oh those factory BS021's suck bad. I remember how they made the bike feel like it was riding in a rut on my 08 and it's really no different on the '09 either. Time to burn 'em up and go to the PP2/PR2 combo!

Tried calling FuelMotoUSA to order my exhaust/PCV/BMC, but always getting their voicemail. Will try again tomorrow. I need to get rid of that stupid SCUD back there and get some more punch!

I feel the same way about mine, I just got off the thing a few minutes ago and the thing is so damn smooth. And IMHO it is much quicker than the 08. I think they remapped the flies a bit.

Mine were pulled at ZERO miles...but that could account for more punch on your bike. My Last 09 (can't really judge by that though) wasn't as quick as my 08 and of course nothing like this 09...

I know the 08 ZX14 got the flies-open-earlier-treatment over the 06/07, so maybe they did the same thing on the 09I just know this one's quicker than my 08 was. Damn, it even pulls hard in OD at 70...more so than my 08 did.

Ya, PR2's on the rear and PP2's on the front. Works great for me...will do that as soon as I burn through the OE set. The PR2 in the rears are sticky enough for me and now I get to change the front's at the same time as the rears with about the same wear.

Agree with you on the PR2 rear being plenty sticky. I am on my fist set on ZX-14, but with PR2 mounted also in the front. From the way they are wearing out, it appears that they will both have to be replaced at the same time, and the PR2 front has plenty of grip as well, at least for me.

They do, but the PP2 wears faster and is stickier, which is why I wanted to use the PP2 up front. I always ended up changing the rear with lot's of front tread left. Now, I'm guessing they'll both show about the same amount of wear.
