Tire Pressure Sensor Battery

Ok, here's the deal. I keep getting a message after I pull out of my driveway that the battery is low on the pressure sensor. This seems like it should be an easy thing to change, like a watch battery maybe, when you pull he tire off. Does anyone know for sure? I'm getting a new tire next week anyway.

I don't know if it charges when you're moving, or is supposed to anyway, but the message goes off after 5 min or so and a lot of the time it doesn't come on at all. I wonder if maybe it's just a problem with the signal from the sensor. I'm pretty sure those things are wireless. I know in my truck they are.

Should be covered under warranty. Maybe I can get dealer to give me a break on tire install while they change the sensor. Got one from Motorcycle Superstore, Pilot Road 2.

On a side note: Got 7,300 miles out of stock tire. Picked up a nail the other day. Managed to squirt some exhaust sealant in the hole and put the nail back in so that it was below the surface. Seems to be holding really well, lol.

Yep, warranty, and the sensor is updated to a new part, still no replacable battery, maybe after they eat a few thousand of them they will get it right! Yes they should give you a break as they have to dismount and rebalance anyway...

My 09 has 2 dead sensors, I have 2 new ones waiting. I think they mixed up the numbers and didn't register the right numbers.

Well I got the sensor fixed... maybe, I dunno. The fucking thieves. I asked them what they would charge me to put the new tire on there when they fixed it. The service manager, which is the owner's wife, said she wouldn't charge me if they had to take the tire off anyway. I told her I didn't want to pay over $20 cause I'd take it to the other shop in town and it would only cost me $25.

So I go to pick up my bike and they tell me the sensor was fine and I had a loose battery cable, so it's $25 to tighten the battery cable and $90 to change the tire. After I fought with them for a while and said I didn't want the tire changed if I had to pay for it, she agreed to let me pay $25 for the tire which is what I would have paid at the other shop. But I'm still burned up about the battery cable crap. Also, I know how these guys are and they probably changed the sensor and fabricated the battery cable so they could say the sensor was ok and charge me for the tire.

Loose battery cable huh? Fucking BULLSHIT. That will NOT cause the sensor not to read...there's no fucking way. They're lying to you. When a sensor goes, it goes, or it wasn't programmed to the computer - either way, it's not a loose battery cable. These bikes are known to have bad sensors and there are tons of people including TedG who have had issues with them.

FBA is absolutely correct. A loose battery terminal will not do that. And as a matter of fact I just took a long look at my tires and they are toast., The front left side is bald, (Flat trackers have a thing for turning left), so I have 2 new sensors and a set of PR2s going on as soon as I feel like it (snowing at the moment). Then the dealer will register them.

They can link the sensors to the ECM before they mount them to the wheel. I had Andy do this since I was mounting my own tire. He attaches the computer to the bike, enters the serial # of the sensor and the computer links the sensor signal to the ECM. It takes a minute to do it. So if any of you guys don't want to buy the tires from them, you have options. Mounting the sensor to the wheel is easy, just follow the service manual instructions.

Yep,
I just put on the PR2s and it is a new bike. I installed the new sensors and all is well after the we registered the new ones.
I looked at the batteries in the sensors and it is nothing more than a 3 volt lithium, CR2X32 (the X is a number covered by a spot welded tab) The battery is a 20mm camera battery. If after the warranty expires it will be simple matter to replace the battery by getting a battery with tabs( they are available) and soldering in the new one. The thing is if the sensor is a programmed device it may lose it's memory if the battery is removed completely so the replacement may be a bit tricky.
