Trip/Commuting gas mileage?
Howdy,
I'm looking at a C14. I did a search, but I didn't find a lot of meaningful info., ref. what I'm looking for. I know many won't care much, but, w/gas costing what it does...What kind of mileage are you guys seeing in "normal" trip driving/commuting w/'flies out, PC, and a slip-on can (I'd go Area P, I beleive.)? Also, any real advantage in a TRE and/or air filter/airbox mods. on the C14? The C14 may become one of only a couple of bikes in the stable (Tragic, I know.), so practicality and economy are a bit of a factor, when needed.
I hope that's not too many questions. I'm looking for the quick and easy low-down.
Thanks.

I usually see near 40 mpg average per tank, but I don't have flies out yet so can't help you there.

With flies out and holeshot exhaust I was getting 44.2 mpg on my last 1566 mile trip, running over 80 mph. The most important factor is the fuel map you're running in the power commander. I'm running an economy map I got from Wormgear. It leans out the fuel mixture by 8 to 9% at partial throttle openings below 5000 rpms. I can barely tell a difference in the performance, and if I want full power I just crank the throttle open and the normal fuel mapping is present.

Just because the computer on the bike says it's a certain mpg, doesn't mean that it is.
I never did real calculations, but I think it is off some, then again so is the speedometer...
I got around 1 or so mpg better with flies out, but then again I do not run it real easy and do not take highway trips, I have only 500 miles on it now and average 42.5 on the computer if it helps..

It's info. I'll take it. I actually gained a bit on my 14 w/the 'flies out, as well. I generally ride pretty easily w/the occasional all-out burst. Gas, license, all that stuff to consider...I suspected if you took it easy, you'd get mid-40's or a bit better on a highway trip. If you dog it, I'm sure it runs down to 30'ish. Nothing is free.
Thanks, again.

you wanna hear a good one, I know 2 guys with big azz hardleys, and they both say 55 mpg!
I just don't get it.... Yes I could pass them both without trying, but 55 mpg on a boat anchor?
I love the little klr for the 70 mpg, but it's no highway bike by any means.

Yeh, the HD's are very fuel efficient, whatever else you/we may think of them...My wife has one of the Versys 650's. Awesome all-around, practical bike! It'll do whatever you want to do, including off-road "adventure-touring," w/ great comfort, handling, and gas mileage (60+ mpg, if you're easy. 50+, pretty much regardless.).
I want the C14, litre bike (RR or 10R), and a Versys. That oughtta' take care of me for a few years. I gotta' save some money. Too many bikes in too short a time...
Thanks for the input.

My dad's big HD Ultra Classic got mid 50 MPG's.
I'm averaging between 46 and 48mpg on the c14, calculated at the pump when I fill up. The on dash average MPG is usually almost dead on. I reset the average MPG every time I fill up.

I could live w/those averages. I presume the bike is bone stock? Though 'flies out, pipe, PC, etc. usually doesn't effect it, IF you ride the same.

I don't post much. I've had my c-14 since end of May. The first tank 36mpg. I now have 6000 and just finished a ride of 1000+ miles a couple of weeks ago. lowest tank was 36mpg haulin... highest tank around 48mpg going 70-75. The bike was 100% stock. Last week I put a slip-on 2bros, PC w/ motofuel map and flies out. I rode only about 250 miles on mountian roads last weekend. The power was great and the mileage was close to 48mpg. I'm planning a 1500+ ride this weekend all on the slab, Spokane to North Dakota and back in 24hrs. It sould be a good all around test with mountians and long straits. The last time I averaged 42mpg stock. We'll see, It runs so much better than stock.

I now have completed the 1600+ miles in 24 hrs. Wow it wasn't what I expected. You have to haul to complete it. I went from WA state to ND and back in 24. When I got to ND I realized that I had ran 12.5 hrs and I wouldn't make it in time. So on the gas I went for the return trip. lots of big numbers to get back in time. The lowest fuel stop averaged 31.45mpg. The best was 43.31. I think my driving was terrible. All I cared about was getting 1600 miles asap. I bent the rules and the fuel didn't matter. 31.45 is the worst I've seen on 5 gallons. Lots of mountian passes....
flies are gone with pc III and a slip-on. Nearly 8K. I think fuel mileage has everything to do with your driving style. Drive it like a rental and see!!!
