My Rant about Pa. inspections for bikes.

Buying a new bike in Pa. means that you will have to go without inspection for a while or get it inspected 2x for one year. Our inspection are annual, but they go by a sheet issued by the state, that sheet is shit!

You would thing buying a brand new bike that it should be good for 1 year, nope... The Klr is the bike that got me informed. I bought that bike in may 2004, I never really bothered to even look at the sticker, just went back for inspection the next may, and didn't even bother to look at that one either. But in spring of 2006 I did look at it and it had expired the past year in october.

So that coming may I was ready for them, the tech said "we have to go by the sheet", which meant for me that my may inspection was only good untill october, If I came back in october I would get 1 year????? WTF!

It happened again for the connie, from a different dealer. I bought her in april, looked at the sticker and it said 10/08!!!! I am an auto tech here and we cannot even inspect a car for less than 6 months, and only up to 14 months, but bikers are getting screwed big time. Either go a year and a half with no inspection or get it done 2x in 1 year for an annual inspection. It's a political money racket. I think I am never going to get the connie inspected, I will check her out good myself instead of paying $25 bucks for a few months...

So the sticker on the connie might be the same one for a long time, the klr I got lucky on as the tech put the wrong year on it, I am good untill oct. 2009. The sticker on the connie is on the upper fork well above sight level, so I think i should have no issue there....

I think I am also going to write my congresman to see what can be done about this and I suggest all pa. people who ride bike do so as well...

I am done,
Rob

Louisiana is annual, and you dont have to display the sticker, just put it in with your paperwork. $10 Bux a year and you are right, it is just a revenue thing. Only been asked to show the sticker once in many years of riding, and that was on my ZX14 by a cop that also owned a ZX. Think he just stopped me to look at my bike, no ticket.

In washington you pay an "inspection fee" every year when you renew your tabs, but there is no inspection, no inspection sticker, no nothing. Talk about a racket. Although i guess i would rather have to pay for an inspection that doesn't exist than go through the hassle of a real inspection.

I know other states are different, but this state needs a wake up call. Annual should mean just that, one time a year, period.

New Jersey, you buy a new car it's at least 2 years untill an inspection, not here....

I am just upset by it, someone is making $$$ by screwing the buyer, I mean on a brand new bike you need to reinspect it in 4-5 months??
