New Concourse for me!

Just picked up my Concourse yesterday. Put 700 miles on it already. I'm not quite as impressed as I hoped with the comfort but I do really like it. Power delivery is very smooth. Makes it more pleasant to ride in a way. I miss the raw power of my ZX-14 a little, but only when I'm trying to keep with my buddy on his R1 really. If your not actually racing anyone the power on the Concourse is more than enough, even with the flies in. When I first picked it up the heat on my legs really bothered me and I was only getting about 35 mpg, but after 600 miles or so the heat decreased dramatically and my mileage is running 44 mpg or so. I love the saddle bags. They have plenty of room, even compared to the Corbin bags I had on my ZX, but it's a little annoying how things tend to fall out when you open them. The Corbin bags opened on the top so this wasn't an issue. I think I'm more happy with the windscreen than most people I've heard from. I rode it from MS to Houston, TX, 400 miles and I liked being able to raise and lower it to shift my weight from my hands to my butt. There wasn't much turbulence in any position unless I have someone on the back seat, then I have to keep it all the way down or I get a lot of buffeting. Oh, just to make some of you angry, I paid $11,600 + TTL, non-ABS. I totaled my ZX a couple weeks ago. I'll post some pics of that soon I hope.

Almost forgot to mention the seat. I've put some serious miles on the bike but the seat isn't as comfortable as I'd hoped. This is my biggest complaint. On my ZX more of the weight was on my hands so I guess this took some of the stress off my butt. Also I had a Corbin seat so maybe that is the real answer. I like the firmer foam on the Corbins for extended rides. It seems harsh at first but it puts the weight where it belongs and is more comfortable in the long haul. I'm not sure I like the look of the Corbins for the C14, but it's looking like I'm gonna have to give it a shot anyway.

I should mention too that I'm really impressed with the handling. I'm not sure why but I feel more confident leaning the Concourse over than I did on my ZX. I drug the pegs all the way around a 270 degree interstate ramp 30 min after I bought the bike. It just lays back and forth easily and feels very stable, even throwing it back and forth in sharp turns.

Congrats.

All you need now are flies out, pc3, and a rear trunk.

Don't mind the mess in the background.

You get over the corbin looks quickly enough.

I've done close to 1000 miles now since getting the corbin. My ass still hurts some at the end of the 400+ mile day rides, but that's mainly due to not being in shape. Here in chicago our riding season is just beginning. The biggest difference with the corbin is that there's this bucket you sit in as opposed to just sitting with your crotch in the gas tank. Also, the seat is more level so there's no sliding forward.

I got mine used at a really good price, so I can't complain. If I had to pay the full price on it, it would be a tough call, but I'd still prob get it.

Check out what others have to say by searching the cog forums (http://concours.org/forum/default.asp?CAT_ID=5 ).

Probably get the PC3 off my totaled ZX-14. Need to pull the flies ya, but I do like the smooth power delivery as it is so I dunno, still undecided. Was definitely the right move on the ZX though. The stock seat is uncomfortable after 100 miles to me so the Corbin sounds like the right move.

I cruise at 3K+, with most time spent around 3500, it made for a big difference. According to FBA, the effect is not as pronounced as on the zx14. The ridability of the bike is still maintained. In fact, the bike is very controllable at low speeds. Throttle control is still VERY precise.

For me, the constant on/off effect of the stock setup was annoying. Hit 4K rpm and the bike feel like 2 more cylinders kick in. Under 4K it was a dog.

Congrats,
The thing will get faster after a few thousand miles. And I feel the same as you about the low end power, If I want to go fast I just rev it up. As for the handling, once you get rid of the Bridgestones it will improve. Also the Bridgestones MUST have 42 pounds in them or the handling is effected. I also like the seat but my butt is in shape and after 400 miles my bony ass hurts. I know the Corbin it worse, I had one on my ZX12 and although it was the perfect shape the thing was so hard it just killed me. I sent it back twice for softer foam and still the foam is made from a secret recipe which includes concrete. At least I am not dying, I do wish that someone made a comfortable seat that had more support and decent foam.

I have 19000 miles on the thing now and I just love riding it. When I feel the need for speed I just jump on the 10, well maybe not so much the need for speed as the need for wheelies. I did 500 miles on Sat and 450 on Sunday and yes my ass was sore.

I liked the hard Corbin foam once I broke it in on my ZX. And ya, I feel the need for wheelies too, but since that's how I totaled my ZX-14 I'm not quite as eager as I used to be. Still got a few scabs that haven't healed just yet. If my job is going like I expect I'll probably get a ZX again next year. I just love the black and red special edition and nothing beats walking down Gixxers and R1's with the bags on the ZX. I guess that's just my thing, too much fun.

I don't see an issue with the stock tires so far. Well, it did walk out on me a little when I was accelerating hard making a left turn from a stop, but they seem solid on turns. I really liked the Diablo Strada's on my ZX so I'll probably go with those when the Bridgestones wear out.

You won't feel the Bridgestones go away till about 2500 miles and then it is serious drop off in handling. I can't speak for the Pirellis but I can for the Michelin PR2s. The thing handles so much better and there is no perceptible drop off in handling after about 7k miles. I replaced my rear and the front is still in good shape. And much to my surprise the new PR2 has a much deeper tread than the first set I bought.

Nice. I'm looking at the PR2's for my next set. I didn't get as much mileage as that out of the Diablo Stradas, and sounds like the PR2's might even handle better.

Damn, that's a great price for the ABS model. I got 2000 miles on it now after just over a week. I have to say the seat sucks. Well ok, I'm not used to riding with jeans and I know the seams are some of the problem but dam this seat gets uncomfortable after an hour. Rode it yesterday with my riding pants and it was a lot better but if my underwear gets a wrinkle it still drives me nuts. That vinyl just doesn't breathe. I think I'm gonna have to get the Corbin.

Jeans suck. I just got done armoralling my corbin. Hope to do alot more sliding around now.

(I clean and treat it every few weeks, or every 1K miles).

After doing some longer rides in leather pants, jeans just bite. Good for small trips around town, that's about it.

Hey Phytrax you ever ride up around Adamsville Tn, or Waynesboro Tn? I found some killer roads coming from Nashville to that part of the state. Natchez Trace is beautiful but the speed limit sucks.. So I didn't stay on that road too long...

I haven't been around Tenessee too much. I'm gonna make a trip up that way as soon as I can though. Hopefully in the next month or so, depending on work and which girl is staying with me. Ya, the speed limit on the trace sucks and they tend to have cops watching but I wanna do it at least once all the way.

phytrax I hate to hear this about your 14, but congrats on the sweet connie. I sold my 14 and got a litre bike. I'm debating a sport tourer in the stable as well.

A few of us just did TN/NC, well worth my 10 hour drive from Tampa! http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?FID=35&TID=38915&set_time=
