Recalls
Hello gent's, I'm looking to purchase the new c-14 in a few months here, and came across this site. I noticed the recalls mentioned by a few of you, can any of you fill me in as to the repairs that were taken? Are the latches on the bags metal or plastic? I emailed Givi about their top case braket for the new C-14 and was told its much stronger, any of you try it out yet? Thanks for the help! If you have any other advice about the new bike I'm all ears...

The plastic latch guide pins could shear and the bag could fall off. The mod changes the pins to metal and should be a good fix. The latch is still plastic.
The plastic luggage rack was not strong enough to support the yet to be released Kawi top box so they beefed it up. Still plastic as far as I know.

I took my bike in to Kawi shop I deal with so I can get the recall work done. I'm going to pick up my bike after I get back home from a business trip this Friday.
I also would like to point out that my latches have proven to be plenty strong.
Four hours before 2007 ended I was involved in a little road incident with my C-14.
The long story short is this: some rat -fucking-bastard decided he/she wanted to occupy the same space in time I was while making a left turn at an intersection. Yippee....
The good news is I got the bike stopped before the bastard hit me. So that person just sailed past, right in front of me, more than likely oblivious to to what he/she almost did.
The bad news is that I didn't stop completely, and my bike started tipping while I was going maybe just a couple of miles per hour. It tipped faster than I could regain my composure to right the bike, so I jumped away from it.
The left bag, and mirror, took the brunt of the fall. In fact the bike held up beautifully. The only things wrong were a couple of cometic issues. A small paint abrasion where the bag kissed the tarmac, and some scratches on plastic on the bottom of the left mirror.
Like I said, I'm doing the recall because it's free, and an improvement on the bike. As far as I'm concerned though, the bags are plenty strong.

That sucks but I'm glad it wasn't any worse than that for ya.
That certainly describes a situation that could break the pins. Probably good you're getting the recall done now.
