FOB Problems.....
So anyways I started my trip from Utah to Ft Lauderdale Florida on Sunday and other than I froze my ass off for the first three hours of the ride I pulled into my destination safely on Wednesday noon. I did have a problem until Tuesday morning when I stopped after a 100 miles to fill up. I shut the bike off to fill up and when I pressed the ignition switch to turn the key to the on postion and nothing happened. At this point I was 50 miles west of Amarillo Texas so I called the Kawasaki dealer there and started to prepare to get my bike towed there to be fixed. They called me back a couple times trying to diagnose the problem but to no avail no start. So after trying a few times I finally got it to turn on and start. At that point I called the Kawi delaer and tow truck and cancelled them as I had to be in FL on time for Thanksgiving with the family. I prayed it wouldn't be a problem anymore but it did turn out to do the same thing again one other time. Unfortunaltely I have to drive back to Utah now and the confidence level is low on this bike now. I am going by a Kawi dealership tomorrow as I need tires and I will mention the FOB probelm to. Anyone having any issues like this?

First of all did you try removing the hidden key and placing the fob on the switch? Maybe the battery is going south.

Shouldn't the display indicate a low battery?

I believe ted is suggesting the battery in the fob is low...
good thought!

I saw that, that is why I was suggesting that. If the FOB battery is low, the display on the bike will indicate it.
Sorry, too vague of a reply from me.

Yes I did remove the hidden key and placed it over the ignition as suggested in the manual and it did nothing. It works now without a problem but it makes me uneasy that I couldn't locate the problem and I will be hitting the road on Wednesday.

First of all I would take the spare fob and remove the battery and store it somewhere where you wont lose it. Because it your problem is a fob problem, at least you will have another one for a backup. I would also try to remove the battery on your main fob and try to start the bike with the fob indexed over the switch just to make sure the RFID is actually working.
Prudence demands that you at least remove the upper middle fairings and the seat and unplug and plug back in every connector you can find.

There is a post on another forum with some issues with the FOB. Same issue, not a dead FOB, battery on the bike charged and could not get it to recognize the FOB to turn thr key.
Have you done any "wiring " on this bike, such as heated vests or gloves. etc.?
I'm starting to have reservations about the KIPASS/FOB. Let us know if you solve your problem.
I'm planning on buying a C14 this spring.

I have gone through all the connections under the seat figuring a bad or loose connection. I will pull the upper part of the fairing for the rest. I wish I had the second FOB with me. Haven't done any wiring on the bike either. I will check the battery and see if I can get a new one.

Here is the text from the manual:
If FOB Key Battery Is Dead
If the FOB key battery is dead, authentication is performed by the transponder and not by the
KIPASS. Authentication requires approximately 1 to 2 seconds.
*It will not detect a battery voltage drop, detect whether the motorcycle is running, or authenticate
the FOB while the key knob is turned OFF.
If the voltage of the FOB key battery has dropped, a warning will appear on the meter as the knob
is turned ON.

Drove all the way to Florida after this incident and only had one more fit..... never had an issue again while I was down there and all the way home. Kind of concerns me. How long do the batteries last in these things?
